Hi, I am the same. My doctor also rang me, some time ago.

My GP put me on iron tablets which helps, but I hated them. Eat plenty of vegetables and fish. I expect someone else will recommend other types of food, which also contain iron, on this website.

Hope this helps. Sharonxx

Shirl have a pint of Guinness now and again lol !! I take iron as you know but if I come off it,my levels drop too low so I'm on 400mg daily and keeps me topped up,I have no problems .but mine is not due to mtx.they will keep a good eye on you shirl xxx

Dark green vegetables also foods rich in vitamin C as this helps absorb iron too.beetroot also excellent.

Hi Shirl,

I've been anaemic ever since I started having blood tests so I was already anaemic before the mtx, most likely because of RA so I'm told. Last blood test showed I was just within the normal range which might be down to the steroid injection I had 8 weeks beforehand or maybe because of all the spinach etc. I keep eating. I definitely think that you can achieve damage limitation with an iron-rich diet (don't forget liver - bursting with iron) even if it's hard to get hb levels as high as you might like.

I have always had low iron levels but they worsened dramatically once I started mtx tablet form. It is improving with my move to injectable. I was recommended odd glass of mackeson along with plenty of greens as suggested above (for their iron and vit c) as I dont tolerate iron tabs too well.

Good luck on this one.

Hope u dont get too clogged up trying to improve the anaemia!

Hi Shirl, It is quite common to have anaemia when you have R/A. I have also been given B12 injections so i guess it must affect that as well. x

Me too, I always just hover just under the normal range, occasionally just move into the normal range. I have always been like that the entire time I have been on MTX (about 10 years). Once or twice I have dropped a long way under and had to have extra iron tablets. The spatone sachets of liquid iron are fairly good for day-to-day boosting and they are not to harsh on your stomach. Best wishes
