Have them give you some gas or think of it this way, A couple of seconds of pain is worth it for maybe months of suffering the agony of tooth ache, I have Fibromyalgia and that can make your teeth very sensitive and I had a real bad time lasted months and one Friday night at midnight after seeing the Dentist 3 times on that day , the pain was horiffic, I asked him to take the bloody things out he did take the one out there and then lol, I went back on the next monday and he removed the lot, (I would recomend having the lot out, if your mouth aches after you can take them out and out put them on a side and say " ache now you swines" lol

I was terrified of the dentist too but it really isnt worth the suffering of tooth ache, get them sorted.

best of luck when you go,

Philip

Hi jaqi. I am ths same, really scared of the dentist following a childhood experience that put me off for life.

I now have a great dentist who sees me once a year to do everything in one go that needs doing. I get an injection of a sedative so I dont feel anything but am still responsive to her, my hubby takes me home and i go to bed for a few hours and thats it, job done!!

It costs about £50 but worth every penny.

If I have problems in between, I can still have the sedation if needed to fix things.

See if your dentist does this, they dont all do it though.

Hope this helps, Pet xxx

Gosh that is a good price for sedation - I pay £500 in Christchurch.

Hi,

I was left after childhood with a terrible fear of dentists. When I was about 20 I got a new dentist and explained all, she went very slowly and I could raise my hand anytime to halt proceedings. She also drew diagrams of what she was going to do. This really helped and I got over my fear, no one enjoys it, but getting up to date with things is a great feeling.

Gina.

It might be worth changing to a dentist who gives you more confidence?

If not ask dentist or gp for advice on sedation.

I used to hate the dentist when I was a kid but now I see it as a necessary bit of pampering. LOL I think I've had just about everything done that's possible: root canal, widom tooth extraction and even a titanium implant at the front.

I wasn't on MTX when I had the implant work done and my dentist says I probably wouldn't have been able to have it done if I'd been taking it then (you can't even have an implant done if you smoke) but I've had root canal and an extraction while on MTX and no issues there.

My current dentist is lovely - and so are all the nurses and receptionists. But she also knows her stuff and is very good at explaining things. Makes a big difference, I think
