Can I take two dmards at the same time?

I am sure this has been asked before but cant find it. I am taking sulpha and metx is it ok to take them together?

I am on my 25mg subcutaneous and have now been started on sulphasalazine, so yes combinations of drugs r quite common. Hope this combination works for u.

Yes I too take both, plus Hydroxy. On MTX night I tend to leave about an hour between taking my sulpha/Hydroxy etc and the MTX. Polly

Hi, It is common practice to add to existing medication. I started with Metx they then added Sulphasalazine and when that didn't slow down my flare up they added Hydrochloroquine (sorry about the spelling) and further to that I also now inject with Embrel. I think it's a case of trial and error until they find what suits your condition. In total I now take a grand total of 120 tablets a week and an injection once a week but always remember to keep smiling....might have something to do with all the drugs though ha-ha. I'm like a rattle snake

yes people often take two and they were presribed so ther fore trust them

Hi all

I could be wrong but I think people might be mis-interpreting Mads' question (perhaps Mads can confirm this). I think she wants to know if you take the tablets at the same time, and that people are interpreting it as whether or not you can be prescribed 2 DMARDs, which as you say is quite common.

Using Victoria's reply as an example, my meds I space over a meal. i.e. one before, one during and one after. When I took Sulp and MTX, I would take the Sulp in the morning after breakfast and the MTX after my evening meal.

Debbie, that was what i was asking i took sulpha and metx together and i have felt foul ever since.

I take my MTX at night and the Hydroxy at mealtimes - usually with lunch if I remember. I do always know when I've taken the Hydroxy because I feel a little queasy and only started getting MTX nausea when i started taking the Hydroxy so I believe these are related but since they have worked so well for me....?
