how to get off prednisolone?

Hi, my doc keeps trying to get me off prednisolone butI am only taking 2 tabs per day. Any ideas please? also on MTX, vit D, folic acid, alendronic acid. AND I HATE THEM ALL!!!

Any ideas on the steroid question please?

Just said this on my own question - reply to Sylvi - but have you tried replacing Pred with ibuprofen 400mgs x 3 daily at meal times? This is what my GP told me to do when I came off Pred but I was only on it for a 3 week course. Good luck. TTx

I found that I was keeping on taking the tablets some time after I was meant to come off them. Then one morning I deliberately did not take them and nothing bad happened, so I have not taken them since and it seems to have made little difference.

Unfortunately I think everyone is different when it comes to medication, what they can and can't take and how and when they are able to come off of medication, so I think unfortunately that this is probably best directed at your rheumatology team. You certainly should not come off of any medication without medical advice, especially steroids, which have to be stepped down gradually. If you are reliant on that level of steroids then you may not be able to stop them without something replacing the good that they are doing for your RA, but your rheumatology team would need to look at what they can give you to help with that. It could be another DMARD, or it may be anti-inflammatories or painkillers, but unfortunately this isn't the sort of question where you can go by other people's experiences and copy them, as that may not be the best option for you.

I hope you manage to come off of them soon, but you may need to push your doctor/rheumatology consultant/nurse to give you support in doing this!
