Squishy lump

I have a squishy lump/swelling on the top of my hand by my wrist joint. It is not painful but it can restrict the movement of my wrist especially first thing in the morning when my hands are at their worst. It kind of moves around under my skin and doesn't look very nice.

Just wondered if anyone else had experienced anything similar?

ganglion? or rhuemaoid nodule?

Sure it's not a swelling? My main hand swelling could be considered a soft lump where hand and wrist meet. It doesn't really move around but can be squished about a bit.

Durrr! Sorry Mags, I see you referred to it as a lump / swelling yourself, so obviously you are in two minds.

Yep I've had that , exactly where u said and also one on my hand at the base of my forefinger ....they have disappeared since taking methotrexate ...they were odd yes squidy, my gp said it was a build of fluid that builds up round fingers/ wrists etc as your bodies only defences try and protect the joints ....they will go down :) Claire x

Thanks Claire, I have had to come off MTX after suffering with a very rare side effect and I am waiting to start on another DMARD. My joints have been worse since coming off the MTX so I hope that re-starting a different drug will help and it will disappear. Although it doesn't hurt, it is unsightly. :( x

Would like to wish Tilda a very Happy Birthday, don't worry about being 50, it's a great age.

Hi Ben I think you're on the wrong blog/ question for wishing me many happy returns but thanks anyway! Hi Mags - sorry you are getting squish and lumps now off the MTX. Can't advise but this sounds as if it's either rheumatoid nudules or pockets of swelling from uncontrolled RA - roll on your next DMARD I should say. Tilda x

Thanks Tilda and many happy returns of the day! I'm 47 myself in a couple of weeks so not far behind you.

RA has been worse unfortunately since coming off MTX and I've had to resort to steroids. I see the nurse next week to start on a new drug so hoping that makes a difference fairly quickly.

Enjoy the rest of your special day.

Mags x

When I read of people like you suffering am having come off MTX I realise how lucky I am to be doing so well on it. Sometimes cynicism sneaks in and I think "oh maybe its just gone away" but really I do know its just the MTX and Hydroxy keeping it at bay but thanks for reminding me. Tilda x
