Hi Caza - sorry you too have this symptom - do you suffer from Raynauds perhaps? It can be a secondary soft tissue disorder to RA. I use Thinsulate at the moment - they are quite padded but soft with it and keep my hands really snug whenever I'm out. I bought a pair for £2.50 a few weeks ago from an local surplus store. Tilda x

Thanks Tilda, Ive seen those.I don't know if its Raynauds,I just thought it was part n parcel of RA x

Well I'm not sure mine's as dramatic as Raynauds either so I'm assuming same thing applies to me re RA - but anyway the gloves are certainly a great plus and live in my handbag permanently now. Tilda x

Hi, It is really hard isn't it? I now have an assortment of properly lined wool/leather gloves and silk glove liners to wear the moment it gets slightly chilly (like from about Sept!). And still I have fingers that go white and painful. Have similar problems with toes...

using two pairs of gloves definitely helps insulate much better - either using those thinsulate ones as the underneath ones, or possibly those silk liners. You can also get instant hand warmers - I've seen a variety of different sachets that you activate and they produce heat. You might need to be careful how quickly you warm up your hands though if its Raynauds as too fast might make them hurt more.

I use IMAK arthritis gloves at work amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00.... When outside I like to use mountain biker's gloves because they are flexible, warm and provide enough room for my hands to swell when I walk. You can get silk linings for them too.

I fin that gloves designed for walkers are the best for me. Slightly stretchy slightly supportive and cosy. They don't cost as much as the specialist arthritis ones and you can often get them in the sales in outdoor shops.

I live in an area where there is plenty of choice of outdoor shops - you can find these sort of gloves on line as well, but I find it best to try them on first.

Thank you for all your help,Ive no idea if Ive got Raynauds or not. My fingers do go extremely white when cold & can be very painful, when everyone else Im with seem to be warm if not hot I just put this down to RA. Ive ordered a couple of things you all sugested & lets hope they do the trick. At the moment Im living on the coast so it can get pretty cold. I hadnt thought about wearing them indoors,so again thank you. X

Sealskinz gloves from Horsehealth are great as they are waterproof and warm and not made of Seals. They are quite expensive but last well and you can still use your fingers to do stuff. You can get them online. You are also get reusable hand warmers from walking shops. Good luck! x

Hi Caza

Probably worth trying to work out if it is Raynauds so that you know what you're dealing with. Have you looked into the symptoms etc to see if they seem to match what you're experiencing? ARUK do a good booklet on this condition:

arthritisresearchuk.org/Art...

There is also an organisation called 'Raynaud's and Scleroderma Association:

raynauds.org.uk/

If you think you do have Raynaud's it may be worth contacting them for advice, especially at this time of year where the weather will start to get colder.

Hope that helps
