yes he i was lucky it was away from the spinal cord but i have a 12 hour op to look forward to but its my choice whether to have it or not there is a 50/50 chance of being in a wheelchair

I know that is scary, Alan, but to put things in perspective..the surgeon and anesthesia personnel are required to tell you that odds/ ratio. However, I have had 8 spine surgeries, one was at the cervical spine, levels 4 thru 7, which are supported by a plate and screws. Each time it was a repair, with positive results, during my working-age years, so I could return to work. Each time I had to be told those risks, but I was fortunate and able to walk!

You will need to weigh the pros and cons, does this interfere or prevent any activities of daily living? Would not having the surgery eventually also lead to use of a wheelchair, or other walking aides? With all the best wishes for you, Loret
