Holiday travel insurance?

Hi All. I know someone from NRAS posted about this recently but before I bother them for the info could anyone tell me if I am obliged or if it's just a good idea to declare RA and does anyone have suggestions of good, reasonably priced holiday insurance for RAers if so? Tilda x

Hi Tilda, Yes it is a good to declare that you have RA incase you have problems whilst on holiday otherwise you are not covered for a pre-existing condition. Our bank account covers Travel Insurance, my husband has Diabetes and I have PsA, High Blood Pressure, all of these are now covered and we had to pay an extra premium to top up, we are covered for a year from when I reported it, rather than the short period that normally happens with travel agents and their astronomical fees. It's worth asking your bank to see if they do anything similar.

hi tilda, when I worked (3years ago!) I used to sell trravel insurance. Please make sure you get RA covered or it will make your insurance null and void. I worked for saga ins. You may not be old enough for that you had to be over 50. But there are plenty of companies out there that will cover you. good luck

Thanks I will do that although my husband checked the bank out last time and it was more expensive - even without the RA. TTx

Quick update - my OH decided to go with the AA in the end because they were the easiest by far to get through to and the best to speak to as well. He said that our car cover needs renewing so he phoned up to cancel the policy but they were so good and quoted such a competitive rate re travel insurance cover for a year plus car that he changed his mind! And they were the most thorough in questions about RA and thyroid too. TTx

I use insure and go, I have RA and my husband has a seizure disorder - costs us about £80 for a fortnight definitely worth it.

I've used Insure and Go and also Travelbility - both are very good. I wouldn't dream of going abroad without declaring my RA and getting appropriate insurance.

Thanks - yes I agree about the RA and also being hypothyroid so all now declared and sorted. Next year I'll be 50 so we may go for Saga but this year the AA seemed the simplest option so our car has cover too for when we drive down to Edinburgh and back. Tilda x

Hi Tilda, I know I'm a bit late, and you're already sorted, but I've dug out my response to the last time the travel insurance question was raised:

Columbus (link below-copy and paste into browser),provide cover for people with pre-existing conditions, like RA, at very reasonable cost. With my RA, and my husband's cardiac arrythmia, joint cover for 2 weeks was around £65

NB this was a fair bit cheaper than the quote we got from Saga at the time, so may be worth remembering when you come to re-insure!

Hi i found out my building society covered my travel insurance but i rang them about my RA and i found out as long as i was only taking 1 type of meds i was covered.
