Hi jaqi, my periods are all over the place at the moment but they don't know if it's the MTX to blame as I also have high prolactin levels so it could be that to blame. I think it is one of the side effects of MTX though

I think summer has had this sort of problem so hopefully she will answer you too.

Sorry I couldn't be more help to you.

Take care

thanks for the reply mand. i did ask my rhumy doc if the mtx could affect my periods and she said she didn't thinks so, but i aven't had a proper period since bein on the mtx which is about 4 months now xx

It can cause irregular periods/. bleeding have a scan through the rather large side effect section of your patient information leaflet it should be mentioned xx

it makes me laugh when consultants say it doesnt!.. they have obviously never read the patient information leaflets of all these drugs they prescibe for patients.. so much so I got sent of for a womb biopsy!! they gynae consultant said he hadnt heard of it!!

Hi, in my case its stopped my periods completely!

I have to wait till later this year for tests to confirm whether I an on the change early or not.

if yours continue's ask your GP about testing 1 I've had one test and need the further test twelve months apart to confirm it.

Take care

Hi Jaqi

Further to what Summer said, if you ever need to check your patient information leaflet (PIL) for listed side-effects and don't have it to hand, there is a good website, where you can look up the PIL for any drug, called the Electronic Medicines Compendium:

medicines.org.uk/emc/

You will see that on the methotrexate PIL it does state: "It may also affect women’s periods; they may become less frequent or stop completely."

Hope this helps

Kind regards

Vicky

thank you everyone for the replies, i feel a bit better now knowing it might b the pills, i was so worried wen the doc said no its not the meds x

If in any doubt still seek advice from G.p.

Patients should always be given a leaflet especially with drugs such as methotrexate.!. in my hosp pharmacy the labels on this medicence are on a black warning/. highlighted back ground to draw attention to its special status its original use and still is at 25mg plus for adult chemotherapy
