Hi Marnie, the best person is your OT ( occupational Therapist) they arrange all these types of things.

Good luck.

Hi mand, I don't have one of those. So my next questions how do I get an OT to get the answer to my other question lol :-)

You will need a referral either from your Consultant/GP or maybe nurse can do it too. Don't wait for your next appointment unless it's quite close and if I remember right its over a month away! give them a call and just ask if you can have a referral to an OT.

I'm surprised you don't already have one as this is one of the first things they do along with a Physio. Your nurse obviously thinks you have already been referred as she mentioned it to you.

Good luck

I have a telephone appointment tomorrow so will ask then. I had a physio appointment ones but got angry and left, after her telling me I had RA because I had one leg shorter than the other :-).

Thanks

Ok Marnie, good luck hope you get it sorted, anything else you need to know just ask.

Sorry to hear about the Physio not going so well, you could ask to see a different one. If your not happy with anyone who's treating you then you have a right to ask to be treated by someone else.

She had no right to say that to you she obviously doesn't now a lot about RA.

It was a very Precisie evaluation either she used avon catalogue's :-) so I have my right leg which is two Avon catalogues shorter than the left. We could all write a book about our funny experiences. X

I have seen the physiotherapist but apart from seeing an OT when first diagnosed I haven't seen on since that about 4 years ago. could I ask to be refereed WHEN I get a rhuematology appointment as I have lost over a stone recently and would probably benefit from new splints etc

in reply to kathgallagher

Yes just ask for a referral, most hospital now have their own OT's and Physios who deal directly with RA patients (through a referral) so they understand our needs better than others.

Hi Everyone, you could also contact social Services as well. I found them very helpful in getting special toiletting things for me as well as handles on my back door to get me over a very steep step! They have their own occupational therapist who will visit and assess what you need and it's free! LavendarLady x

ot/ social services together got me a bath board and step!! for free.( permaanent loan!)

The more expensive things unless you are not working !,are on a means tested sytem. I have been given a quote for some alteration work ( county council/ social services!)in my bathroom and im going to be paying £306 towards it!.

I think this would appear to be somewere between a half and a third of the cost myself.. think it is bit nearer to a third of the bill??!
