I've only recently been diagnosed and I'm on Naproxen.

Yes some medications can cause a metallic taste like Alison said, this can generally be through high dose of steroids too.

Thank u x

Hi Kay

Yes Naproxen can cause this. Are you waiting to be started on disease modifying drugs? Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory which along with pain killers will ease the symptoms of the disease but will not control it or slow it down.

I've just had blood tests but they were neg. The flare ups are getting more painful and i feel as though ive got flu, the doc has given me pain killers but the pain in-between F.ups is in my hands, wrists, and my arms. I've actualy started a diary because I couldent believe what was happening and it came on so sudden. It's nice to now I'm not the only one out there -:)

Hi Kay

Returning a negative result means nothing really. You need to be seen urgently by a rheumatologist who will assess you properly and prescribe appropriate medication. RA (sero positive or negative) is an incurable chronic disease which can lead to irreparable joint damage if not adequately controlled. Each flare can lead to more inflammation and possible damage. Fortunately these days much can be done to slow the progression of the disease but it does need to be treated as early as possible. The window of opportunity is regarded as three months from the onset of symptoms.

Please go back to your GP and request a referral. Naproxen is temporary relief only! Have a read of my blog, nras.healthunlocked.com/blo... and you will see why early treatment is necessary!

Omg I see what u mean, this week has been the best I've been for ages except for my hands and at times like this I think ' have I actualy got it'. I'm off to Switzerland in 5 weeks a place I've always wanted to go to since I was a teenager (im 59) so I pray I'm going to be pain free. I also find when using the mouse on my computer my hand stiffens up completely so I'm now on the IPad.

Evening! Yes I did to point where it was driving me mad, it felt like I was sucking on a two pence piece all the time, it was disgusting. The strange things was it was only on one side of my mouth. I was forever sucking on boiled sweets to try and take the taste away. It went after my body had got used to my new meds' though (took about a year on an off though) So get yourself some gum drops. I would suggest you go to the dentist though to get checked out as some steroids can induce an abcess under the teeth. Make sure your dentist knows what medication your on and it is essential you tell him/her if you have had a steriod injection in the last year. It will pass, promise! Regards Mel

Well I thought I had a good week, the pain in my legs and knees today is killing me. If I had this pain all the time I don't think I could cope, just taken some pain killers. I wish I could cut my legs off. -:(.

have you tried a tens machine?? you can safely take paracetamol or paracetamol/ codeine with your naproxen though think you should see gp for stronger pain killers eg co-dydramol prescription only! and and may be steroids like wise

also amitriptyline nerve pain.. if things get too bad at weekend. tonight ring out of hours service xx
