What is a DAS ? I have been attending the arthritis clinic for quite a while and have not come across this? How is it calculated?

I believe it's Disease Activity Score which is a measure of how a condition affects your daily life.

Thanks Beth

I am new to this community and have done a little more digging and found a great explanation on the site called 'Disease Activity Score - - DAS' Posted by LynW 19 Mar 2011.

I think more attention is paid to DAS score in U.K than else where, I'm not sure tho. My Rheumy has never mentioned it to me.

My rheumy does use it, although often forgets to tell me what it is. I think it's used more in england as whether or not you get anti-tnfs is based on having a rubbish DAS score. There is a nifty online calculator if you want to play at being your own rheumy.... 4s-dawn.com/DAS28/DAS28.html

Hi Fiona. Lyn was fantastic at answeriing this sort of thing - she gave me a lot of wise words and information. You should have yur answer if you've read through her blgs etc. But in summery it's the scoring system used to assess for meds such as ANTI TNF. I have been scored using this and was not too happy with the result as it only takes into account certaiin joints, so you may for example have RA in the spine or neck but this wuld not be taken into account. Kind regards Mel

Hi all

We have a lot of useful information about DAS on our website, including a video explaining about it. This is a link to the video, and at the bottom of this page there is also a link to our article about DAS:

Hope this helps
