I've been diagnosed nearly a year with RA, but nothing seems to be slowing it's progress. I'm so exhausted with it, any helpful ideas?

Hi, if nothing is helping after a year you must be feeling so frustrated. Can you tell us what Meds you are taking and what other help you are getting. Are you seeing a Rheumatologist. And do you get Physio help, etc?

It can take quite a while to get sorted out but a year seems a bit much to me.

Yes, it's a long time not to feel any improvement - at least I felt I was on the way after about that amount of time. But I found that I had to be quite pushy and keeping nagging the rheumy team/GP etc to say I wasn't happy with progress, and get them to try different meds and doses 'till we found a combination that works. I also found that it made quite a difference when I finally started to come to terms with having RA, and realised that I would have to alter bits of my life and pay more attention to looking after myself. For ages I think I was in denial & trying to carry on as before, which just wasn't working. But the combination of the drugs and paying attention to food, sleep and exercise seems now to be working for me. I was also lucky enough to be able to alter working life quite dramatically, which helped hugely as am only part time now. I'm 2+ years and tho' still hope for further improvement it's reasonably ok.

Hang on in there and persevere, they'll find something for you soon. Polly

hey! thanks guys for posting back so quickly. I've was on methotrexate at first but I had some nasty side effects after taking it for a while, i'm on sulphasalazine now and yes i'm seeing a rheumatologist. The meds are being tried at different dosages, i actually started on a higher dose of it yesterday so hopefully that will help. I have had to slow down quite a lot which is tricky as i'm still at university and still getting used to trying to pace myself through the day especially if I haven't slept well. Hopefully things will start feeling better soon.

Hi Lona, It can be a very long and frustrating road to getting sorted, every time you have an increase or alteration in drugs, its another 3 mnths wait to see if it works. You've had some good advice there, Just keep your your chin up and hopefully will get there soon. Good luck. Zeen
