I know that I will need carpal tunnel op in the future but my left hand is constantly numb, itchy and I have no feeling in my fintertips whatsoever. My hand is quite swollen and I am wondering wether a hand splint would help. Any ideas

Hi, it sounds like Carpal tunnel, but it might be a nerve trapped somewhere else, like in the shoulder or neck?
I suppose it could be Raynauds, but I think that would be in both hands..
My GP tried to help my Carpal tunnel problem by supplying a wrist splint, but it didn't cure it, although it did help a bit.
I had the operation with a local anaesthetic and it was no big deal and sorted immediately, but it drove me mad for the 12 months I waited for the op. It was especially bad in the middle of the night for some reason.
I do think you should see your GP in case it's something that needs immediate attention.
Oh, numb+swollen doesn't sound a good combination. If you've tried all the usual stuff to ease it then I also think you should head straight back to GP to get his/her opinion as may need to do something else. Or at least start the process of getting the carpel tunnel op.
Hi, I was exactly the same and my consultant was going to refer for op. He said it was inflammation crushing the nerve. He gave me depmedrone injections over several months which helped. Then I also had a injection into the tendon on my wrist and so far so good. ( I wanted to avoid surgery If at all possible)
Hi Patti, I have just had the same and have wrist splints which help mainly at night . My phsio has sent me for a mri scan as i have swelling and numbness so maybe you should see your gp also.
