Yes I saw this too. The report acknowledge that many of us live with chronic pain (1 in 4 according to the IPSOS survey) for a variety of different reasons. I was surprised it is that many.
Apparently 24% of those with chronic pain rely on opiods and 23% are either on waiting lists for surgery or a pain management programme. So that figure won't include those of us who expect we will need surgery soon but are not yet on the waiting lists. Rather depressing, isn't it.
Thank you for link Deeb1764 , sounds like a chronic pain survey I was involved in with Versus Arthritis. I have had Chronic pain for over forty years associated with herediatry arthritis. The link depicts just how it is , and many people don't realise how it is to go to bed in pain and get up with the same pain for the next day. Small doses of opiods can help some but not all and not everyone can take anti inflammatory drugs, I like the idea of groups for a laugh it distracts you from the pain. Oh and be beware joint operation changes for pain don't always work either. Now we are getting phone calls from people saying Natures Gel will cure the pain in ten to twelve months. Wanting £48 for a small bottle which is only £34 on line direct, sadly I can't take a shot of whiskey, which is known to help releive pain. But would appreciate a group meeting with others as most groups have been disolved since the lockdown. I am attending an online webinaire on pain this coming Monday. Will pass on any news of different options dscovered. enjoy your day.
I can't help thinking the call to reduce opioid use isn't just about patient care but about drug costs. They will be saying no to pain killers but offering no alternatives. Maybe a 2 year wait for a pain management class?? If you are lucky. I couldn't still manage to work without pain killers.
I need mine I have tried reducing and going onto mild versions but within days I am a week k and upping prednisone so it’s a vicious cycle
