Good morning
Just wondering if anyone has any experience of a consultation with Dr Lucie Wilk either as a NHS rheumatologist and/or a private functional medicine therapist please. How did you get you with her if you have seen her? Thank you

Googling "Dr Lucie Wilk" seems to indicate a strong internet presence, so you can read all about her. Even a TED talk as well. Sorry no personal experience
Hi Misty are you seeing her as a nhs patient or thinking of functional medicine practitioner?? I have seen a FP (also a gp) lovely lady very costly & didn’t feel I was getting value for money.. I wish I had continued with Julia Davis in Kenilworth, but as the other was local I thought it would be better. I have booked to go on the Julia Davis retreat in May. Think carefully before spending out, there’s so much free info out there you could resource... intermittent fasting being a starter & supplementing, both extremely beneficial & there’s loads of advice out there!!
Hi Durrell, thank you for your feedback. I saw a nutritional therapist when I was first diagnosed with RA so it's not the nutritional side (what to eat and what not to eat) of funtional medicine I am after. I'd like to be tested to confirm whether, for instance I do have a leaky gut, confirmation or otherwise that my gut biome is not quite up to scratch etc. So tangible causes rather than oh your diet may be deficient in this etc.
What did you gain from Julia? What does she offer? I can travel to Kenilworth, actually her consulting rooms are closer and easier to get to than those of Lucie Wilk. Thank you
Hi, I’ve seen Lucie as a FP, I found her really helpful .
Hi Akaka
Was this for her functional medicine approach or as an NHS rheumatologist? Are you able to elaborate as to how and why you found her helpful please? Many thanks
It was for a functional medicine approach, it was looking at the triggers to my getting RA, diet and putting certain things in place to help me (along with the RA meds), it was enlightening and made sense. I feel I have a lot more understanding as time goes by as to what triggers any flares. We are all very different and I feel she was treating me as a whole rather than just the symptoms of the disease if that makes sense.
Thank you! Sorry to ask so many questions, but was it just triggers like stress and diet or did she carry out further tests to check if you had a leaky gut, whether you were absorbing all the nutrients from food etc
No she didn’t but the diet I went on showed up certain foods the caused pain in my joints after I reintroduced them after 6 weeks. She can do those tests if she thinks it is appropriate, I know of other people who have seen her and she has done tests.
There is a long questionnaire you fill out before seeing her, it’s very comprehensive.
Thank you. I have worked on my diet and stress since I was first diagnosed in 2014 so didn’t want to spend more money if the focus was going to be in these areas. Thank you so much for responding. How many sessions did you have with Dr Lucie and are you still seeing her now?
Take care
I’ve had 3 or 4, the first one was for one and a half hours nearly 2 in fact and I’ve had 2 or 3 shorter ones since. I’ve not seen her since August but have an appointment booked for April. Hope that helps, I was diagnosed only just over a year ago and that was over the phone after blood tests and an ultrasound on my wrists. With the hospital it was basically this is what you’ve got and here’s the tablets, fill everything out online, watch a video on how to take your medication and see you in 6 months!
I’ve since changed hospitals at my GP’s suggestion. As I said, I do know of someone who she has tested for nutritional absorption and other issues which would never have happened with the NHS. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Thank you! Sorry about your awful initial experience. Thankfully I have a good rheumatology team around me but it’s still all one medication after another until one suits. Hope it all goes well with you. Take care and thanks again for sharing your experience with Dr Lucie.
