Hi Sylvi, We are not expecting anyone to pay more for their current Membership of National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, if you are an existing Member you can stay on the package you are on, we have said all along to existing Members of NRAS when we have been talking about the new packages we were launching, and we will be communicating that message again to all current Members next week . We are just offering some new and different packages for those that have told us they want access to other benefits. Would you like to give me a call for a quick chat on 01628 823524 option 1.

Can you clarify as it's not clear are you stopping access to information unless we subscribe on an annual basis so charging people who may be on benefits ? rather than asking for donations. The 'packages' need to be more descriptive as to actual benefit of taking out. I certainly won't part with any money on a regular basis without knowing or seeing a lot more than just a list of supposed 'benefits'. This is akin to more you pay the more you get so discriminating against those who can't afford to pay as it doesn't seem to make that clear either. Can you also as I looked to renew where is your privacy statement as to receive third party information you appear to holding information subject to data protection. I'm shocked at this post.

I don’t think this forum is part of any of the NRAS memberships, as run by health unlocked and freely accessible.

Yes that is correct, Health Unlocked NRAS is freely accessible to anyone, NRAS Memberships are joining National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society, we have always been a Membership organisation since we were founded in 2001.

Hello this NRAS Health Unlocked forum is free to join, set up by and moderated by the charity. The post above is from us, the charity National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society NRAS, who have always been a Membership organisation since founded in 2001. However we have always provided our services free to all those who need us whether they are a Member or not, but people can choose to become a Member to access Member benefits. It is not third party information. All the details of the new NRAS Memberships we have launched are on the link on the bottom of the post nras.org.uk/become-a-member/ Do give me a call if you have any further questions or concerns on 01628 823524 option 1 for Membership

Please read your post it specifically talks about third party offers and discounts. How will you provide those offers and I made a donation but have no intention of joining anything without a lot more info. Do please put up some ideas of well-being and how you'll use information. I feel strongly that whilst charities are in a difficult situation that people should not be asked to pay to join to access information and services that it was set up to provide. If I wish to make a donation I shall but not under any annual promise be that for £19 or £1900.

As I said do please give me a call if you want to discuss new Memberships, Im happy to talk through the benefits with you and the mechanics of different aspects of them. We will not be sharing Members information with third parties in order to access the third party offers and discounts and you can read our privacy notice on the FAQ's of the Membership page. As I said in my earlier post National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society was founded as a Membership organisation, but our services have always been made available to everyone freely, whether they are a Member or not.

Thank for your clarification.

What sort of Benefits are you offering? I think support for our condition is why we partake here…not to get discounts on ???

Tracy-NRAS profile image
Tracy-NRAS in reply to AgedCrone

Head over to our Website to take a look nras.org.uk/become-a-member/ We have based these packages on feedback from Members and non Members of National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society. NRAS often get asked on our helpline for products and aids and also can we obtain discounts on x y & z in support of people conditions. Just to clarify when you say "here" you are on NRAS HealthUnlocked. The Membership packages we are referring to are for National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS). You do not need to sign up to these Membership packages to be on this forum.

My take on it Tracy...

I've previously been a paid up member of NRAS, which is different from the this forum, which is free of charge. Now as in the past there is no compulsion to join NRAS, but many of us do as NRAS is totally dependent upon membership fees and donations.

What is being offered by NRAS membership is the same as previously, just different levels of membership, rather than a one size fits all approach. An approach used by many organisations, some people do not want 'full' membership as they will not use all the benefits that brings , so why pay the full amount ?

An analogy might be gym membership, you can pay for full membership, off peak membership or limited hours membership, which ever suits you best, but everyone gets to use the same basic facilities, but in the case of NRAS, you do not need to be a paid up member to do so.

Thank you for your reply and yes you have it spot on.

On your privacy statement it specifically states you may share information to third party partner organisations. As far as I know that could be Tesco although they probably do have very good privacy policies. And will you get a fee for driving trade from members based on your offers and discounts. I'm sorry but if so, that is not an impartial recommendation but is an event of benefit to the NRAS.

As I stated above "We will not be sharing Members information with third parties in order to access the third party offers and discounts". The privacy policy does give you information on our entire privacy policy for NRAS and applies to those people that choose to interact with us and give GDPR consent. As I said if you want to talk about the specific mechanics of our Membership scheme or indeed any of our operating policies please give me a call or email us at membership@nras.org.uk

Thanks for the update Aribah. I’m very grateful for all the support NRAS gave me when I was first diagnosed and the public voice that you give rheumatoid arthritis.

NRAS is charity that I’m happy to be able to continue to support.

Me too, I would have been lost in my early days of being unwell, and still would be lost without NRAS.
