Good Morning can anybody please help 🙈

I am on the biologic Tocilizimubab and methotrexate so am immune suppressed like most of us Rhumi people . I’m having a battle with my GP surgery at the moment as they’re offering me a Covid booster , when I asked should it be a 3rd vaccine I’ve been told twice it’s the same thing . But , I’m hearing different and I googled and it says that they are different doses and immune suppressed people should get a 3rd vaccine NOT a booster . I am so confused and need again to confirm this again with my gp today … so what is right please before I take this up with them ?

Thanks so much

Your GP is correct. The Phizer (which is the most common vaccine offered)is the same dose whether called 3rd primary or a booster. I believe Moderna may be offered in some areas but that would be given as a half dose as a booster/3rd primary. Check with your GP or rheumatology that as an immune supressed person that the third jab be recorded as a 3 rd primary and you will be offered a further vaccination in 6 months time.

Hope this clarifies this for you 😊

I'm not definitely eligible for the 3rd vaccine but when I spoke to my GP last week, he advised me to have the booster (which I've booked for 6th November) and then check with my consultant at my December appointment. If I'm eligible, I will then have a booster in 6 months time.

So basically, the 3rd jab is exactly the same whether it's called 3rd primary or booster. 😊

You are correct it is completely separate to the booster, however if they offer the Pfizer it’s the same dose, moderna is full dose for the 3rd and 1/2 fir the booster. Advice is if offered booster first to accept then get records amended. I’ve attached a copy of the letter sent to gps and specialists setting out their responsibilities and giving a deadline of 11th October to contact patients. You generally need a letter from your rheumatologist and they send a copy to your GP confirming it’s due and any restriction around timing of the dose. You can then take that letter to a walk-in centre for your 3rd dose

There is so much already written here about this. So much confusion.I was told at the vaccination centre that:

a) the dose is the same for either the booster or 3rd vaccine

b) if offered a 3rd dose, it is because you will also be offered a booster, though the time lag between the 2 is not yet decided.

c) if offered a booster, you will not be offered an automatic follow up

It seemed clear and sensible to be me.

Only the Pfizer dose is the same. If offered Moderna it’s a full dose for 3rd vaccine or half dose for booster. So you would need to be certain it was the Pfizer you were getting if you decide to go ahead then amend records later

This is my experience Claire. I've had 2 AstraZeneca jabs. My GP Surgery called me & said I was eligible for the booster & gave me an appointment time. Before I was vaccinated the nurse told me due to my immune system situation that this was was my third primary vaccine, the Pfizer, but that it is the same as the booster. I was given the card like the one I have with my 2 AZ jabs but with Pfizer third primary dose vaccine details, & she said that I will be called for the booster in 6 months time.

Hope this helps.

I had my booster on Monday (stood around for over an hour, wasn’t impressed) On Tuesday I then got the letter from my Rheumatologist saying it should be recorded as a 3rd vaccine. Was about to ring my GP surgery to get this sorted and they actually rang me. So in 6 months I get to have another jab !!!First time I have had any sort of communication since this all began. At least I had no side effects this time around either 😊

I had Az for first two. Pfizer for the third primary dose and am anticipating the booster in six months time (same med, same dose, different time) .

They have made all this so much more complicated than it needed to be ! Good luck with your GP x

Some of this confusion is over the vaccine to be given I think. I volunteer at a vaccine clinic in a local pharmacy and one person with a letter from his consultant was turned away for 3rd dose- I think because he had had AZ for the first 2 and it wasn’t clear whether he could have Pfizer which is now the only one available there. There is a lot of confusion over this - and of course the booster is a third dose as long as you get the ‘booster’ 6 months after it!

My understanding is that the booster and 3rd dose are the same (in content), but your record will be updated to say yours was a third dose and you should then get invited for booster in 6 months.
