Third vaccine

Had my third COVID vaccine yesterday, and given the flu vaccine at the same time. Woke up with two stiff arms and a thumping headache!

I was unwell for a few days following my second COVID vaccine and praying this is not the case this time as I have my driving test this afternoon …… maybe should’ve planned this better!

Hope everyone is as well as can be, in these continuing strange times c

I had my 3rd dose yesterday, I had the AZ for the first 2, and Pfizer yesterday. Like you I have woken to a blinding headache, and 2 very painful arms and flare up of my AS from the armpits up. The only positive think I’m taking from it is that it shows my body is hopefully busy making antibodies. With the AZ I had flu like symptoms for 4 days and low cortisol symptoms as I have severe adrenal insufficiency. This time I increased my steroid dose, which seems to be controlling the low cortisol symptoms. Hope it settles, take brufen & paracetamol if your allowed, drinking plenty will also help the headache. Good luck with your driving test 🤗

I had a third jab of Pfizer after two AstraZenica jabs . I had little reaction to the two AZs but the Pfizer really knocked me out . Only sickness was missing from possible range of reactions . I had asked my rheumatologist if I needed a third jab THEN a booster . She agreed and said she would write to my doctor .

I had an invitation for a booster before I heard anything so presented for that .

A couple of days later I received two invites for boosters .

I'm wondering if I can count the third vaccine as a third jab , then have another booster in 6 months time ?

The only problem is I understood that the third jab should be the same as the first two . So this may not work out with two AZs and 2 Pfizers .

Every others is having Pfizer as 3rd vaccine or booster regardless of the 1st two, so hopefully it shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks ! Somehow I thought that the 3rd jab had to be the same as the first two , THEN the booster would be Pfizer . To be honest I didn’t really want to contact my doctor to enquire . When I saw my rheumatologist she wasn’t sure whether I was entitled to a 3rd vaccine or not as I’m on 20 mg of methotrexate but she said she would write to my doctor to request the 3rd vaccine anyway . 3rd or booster I’m sure in another 6 months time things will be clearer ( or not ) .

I was informed that my third jab would be different to my first 2, which were AstraZeneca. The third was the Pfizer, unlike you I had no reaction, not even the slightly sore arm I had with the first 2 AZ jabs. This is from gov.uk website The JCVI advises a preference for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for the booster programme, regardless of which vaccine brand someone received for their primary doses. This follows data from the COV-BOOST trial that indicates the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is well tolerated as a third dose and provides a strong booster response… Alternatively, a half dose of the Moderna vaccine may be offered. Where mRNA vaccines cannot be offered, for example due to allergies, the AstraZeneca vaccine may be considered for those who received it previously. gov.uk/government/news/jcvi...

I hope the side effects don't linger & you feel better soon.

Thank you for this clarification . I hoped the strong reaction from the Pfizer meant that this was the ‘strong booster response’ I was hoping for . I had little or no response from the first two AZ - I assumed because I was immunocompromised. However , my husband had exactly the same response to the different vaccines as I did and he’s NOT immunocompromised. Who knows ?

We both recovered within a couple of days - thank you .

No the advice is for all 3rd doses to be Pfizer or moderna, they prefer the 3rd dose to be mRNA one. If you’ve received your letter re the 3rd dose you should be able to ask your GP to record the Pfizer one as that. At the moment they are being logged as 2nd doses so you get your invite in 6 months for the booster.

I’ve had a flare up of my pains with the Pfizer one as well as headache and nausea, and generally more flu like as the days gone on. Hopefully that means my body is busy making antibodies

I hope you feel better for your driving test, wishing you good luck.

I was neither up nor down with my Pfizer and flu vaccinations last week (or with the AZ last time). I hope I am producing antibodies.

Great news about your knee op, allanah. My hubby had his done seven weeks ago and it was so good to see him in the garden yesterday getting stuck into trimming things back for the winter. He hasn't been able to do that for the last two and half years. Hope it goes well for you. 👍

Hope you feel better soon Marie. Rotten feeling rubbish when you're needing all your concentration for something so hope your driving test doesn't ramp up your headache. Everything's crossed for a pass. I thought I’d blown it before I even left the test centre car park as I caught the kerb when reversing in to a space & then again when exiting the car park but somehow I passed! Guess the tension just left my body. Let us know how you got on? x
