3rd Covid Vaccine!! 🥳

Well, I decided to try a walk-in vaccine centre this evening with my prescriptions in hand, along with evidence of my Rituximab infusions...and I actually got my 3rd Covid vaccine - Pfizer!!!

There was literally one left and it had been booked, but after waiting for 20 minutes, they didn't turn up, luckily for me.

I had called 119 earlier and he understood that I needed one, but he wasn't able to book it; he could only book the booster vaccine. Even when I went this evening, the first guy said it was a booster, but the nurse said it was a third jab. She told me to go back there in 6 months for my booster, when a senior nurse would be in (before 4:30) so that she would understood what was needed.

Copy and paste the above on your Web browser, Google- or similar. Or follow the link below to see the JVCI guidance for 3rd primary vaccine.

Hello,So pleased for you. Congratulations. Think I will have to try the same thing. Have been trying to get my 3rd vaccine now for 2 weeks as I need a left hip replacement urgently and the surgeon wants me to have the jab prior to surgery (private). Both my Rheumatologist and Immunologist also recommend this strategy and have contacted my GP to state my case.

A bit of history. RD diagnosed 1975 when I was 24. So severe that I had to give up nursing in 1978. Treated aggressively but effective drugs that worked for me were not around in those days so lots of joint damage. First glimmer of hope was methotrexate which I have been on since 1986. Numerous joint replacements and fusions, both ankles, one knee, one hip ( awaiting other one) and finger joints x 2. Second hopeful scenario came when I started Rituximab in 2008 which definitely improved my quality of life and reduced number of flares. Unfortunately then developed osteopenia so treated with AA for 4 years. From 2010 suffered numerous infections including shingles x 5, chest infections, UTIs, campylobacter and E. coli. After self diagnosis referred to Immunology and diagnosed in 2016 with Rituximab induced Hypogammaglobulinaemia, low immunoglobulins requiring immunoglobulin therapy.

Have failed to make any progress with the health professionals as to how I get the jab. GPs don’t want to know, receptionist just told me they are not involved! Can’t book through 119, they don’t even seem aware of the concept of a 3rd jab. Banging my head against a brick wall. So in the absence of anything else will turn up at a vaccination centre. Anyone got any advice? Live in Cambridge does anyone know where to go for Pfizer or Modena jab? Also which is the gold standard antibody test Dr Stephan Seibert referred to in yesterday’s live NRAS broadcast? Thanks for any information or advise. Take care.

Best wishes Pam

I went through the same process trying to get my 3rd jab and the answers received from everyone. That's why I threw caution to the wind and went yesterday evening. You can only try. I've attached the letter which explains why you can have it- take that too, if you can download it OK. They didn't want to see mine tbh, but taking proof of my meds definitely helped. Go for it! I didn't have the choice of Moderna, but was happy with Pfizer. I had Astrazeneca for my first 2 jabs and they gave me absolutely no cover!

Bravo 👏🏼 we’ll done on getting your third dose. I’ve just called my GP and they’ve got no knowledge of the third dose…they kept on calling it a booster! I quoted from the NHS guidelines letter sent to all GPS on the 2nd September and she had no idea. I get that this is an administrator but surely the GP has shared this information?! My medication is specifically mentioned in the directive so she’s going to look into it and get back to me next week!

I had my 2nd dose on the 26th April and she said that I could get my booster from the 26th October.

Try what I did....it worked for me. It's not a booster, it's a 3rd jab and you'll get a booster 6 months after that.

I am so glad you have had your 3rd COVID-19 jab. I am going to do the same thing, go into a walk in clinic. I am getting fed up with phoning my doctors, who don’t want to know and getting nowhere with 119. I can’t thank you enough for the information that you have given.

Good luck 🤞Tell them that 119 advised you to go there.

I am pleased you have managed to have your third vaccine. Thank you for the information of how you did this.I am due retuximab early December and need my third vaccine before. I have had no contact from anywhere yet about it. I rang my GP surgery and they knew nothing. She though I was referring to the booster. I'm unsure what to do. We don't have a walk in very near but I will have to start somewhere maybe ring the nearest one. Grateful for your post xx

Excellent.I've just posted about the confusion I experienced with staff at the vaccination centre this morning.

I held my ground and got mine too, but many other people may have accepted what they were told and left without being vaccinated.

I received a second letter from my rheumatology dept today about the vaccine. This one advised me to ignore the first letter advising me to ring 119 for an appointment but to take the letter to a walk in centre. So you did the right thing. I will be heading off for mine in 2 weeks time.

I’ve been trying for 3 weeks as my daughter was getting married k lol sst Saturday. Ironically today I received a letter from my rheumatologist to GP confirming I’m eligible for the 3rd dose. I’m considering turning up at a walk in that does the Pfizer vaccine, and take my chances. I’m on 5 immunosuppressants + 2 steroid inhalers

Yes it is the same dose BUT we should get a third dose AND a booster ( at some point).

Correct! There's been a lot of misunderstanding going on.

Get the 3rd jab. Forget what they call it - then follow with a 4th top-up later. According to my rheumy nurse that will be in 6 months.

No point in asking GPs - most know nothing about covid vaccines I'm afraid.
