Methotrexate and fuzzy thinking continuation

Hello everyone, so I've had a week of no Methotrexate, on the positive no fuzzy thinking / forgetfulness on the Monday, bliss, on the negative, my hip and thumb by the end of the week were starting to really hurt, so I decided I wasn't going to stay off the medication for another week for my joints to get worse, when I'm pretty sure it is the Methotrexate causing the fuzzy mind, I had to ask my husband 3 times this morning something he had just told me πŸ™„ 😁 does anybody else split their medication over 2 days/ nights, does this help you? Maybe that's the way forward 😊 have good Sunday everyone.

I don't think that you should spilt the dose over two days. Some people have mentioned taking two doses on the same day but I think that's in an effort to help things like nausia rather than fuzzy head - I would have thought that might just increase the time it lasts!

Drinking lots and experimenting with the time you take it might be more effective but I must admit that I just accept the fuzzy head day and try to laugh it off. I'm happy to say that my joints are really good atm and for me, a day of fuzzy thinking is more than worth it πŸ˜‰

Oh ok, to be honest I hadn't head of splitting it. I did feel abit sick last night and now, not great, but let's hope the joint pain eases. Good that your joints are good 😊 I'm lucky in that my fuzzy thinking is only one day, but I suppose it unnerves me not being able to remember for the day.

Maybe I'm a bit more laid back about it as I get a bit of "what did I come in here for" most of the time these days and my friends all say the same - we're in our 60's. So maybe being able to blame it on my medication for one day a week is quite nice! πŸ˜‚

Ha ha ha a good way to look at it πŸ˜πŸ‘ I shall adopt this approach from now on, thank you.

My wife as taken Mtx. for some years with no sside effects until recently. Now she as the fuzzy thinking problems which are quite bad. Only takes 7.5mg.

I'm due to start it for the third time next week. They have tried me with every thing they have, but get severe side effects on all. So it;;s back to Mtx. which gave no side effects but no relief.

Oh no, sorry your not having any joy with your medication, that's hard to deal with. I find the side effects just as bad as the pain. 😣 I've only been on Methotrexate for 2 and a half years it was working well till few months ago.

I guess you drink lots of water and v little booze? Vit B12 helps with foggy brain, we now both take v high dose , think it's 1000 mg, healthspan.. it has helped immensely. best of luck

Do you mean mcg?

Most of us are on a maximum of 5mg Folic Acid daily except for Methotrexate day so do you take both? πŸ€”

sorry, i have just checked the [Greek] symbol - dosage is 1000 Micrograms per day, which is ?100mg? I was taken off Methotrexate several years ago, but am now on biosimilar Truxima which works well for me.

I think that 1000 mcg is 1 mg...I was asking if you take B12 as well as Folic Acid - sorry, I wasn't very clear!

Yep loads of water and only 1 or 2 drinks a week, thanks for the vit b12 tip, I'll ask the nurse when I speak to her again. 😊

You could try swapping to the injections. I was so fuzzy and nauseous on the tablets and changed to mtx by metoject. I still get side effects the next day but not as badly

Yep I have the option to go to the injection, but really would rather not do that at the moment, it will be a last resort for me. Good that it's working for you. 😊

Hi,I came off methotrexate injections this will be my 3rd week now. I have some pain and swelling but the forgetfulness I feel is getting better, and I am not sweating like I was when I was on it. I think there are many side effects to methotrexate that people are not told about. hope you feel better soon. x

Hello Bagpuss 2021, did you come off the methotrexate injection because it wasn't agreeing with you? Are you going back to the tablets or off methotrexate completely? Since taking my tablets on a Saturday now I find I don't notice my symptoms as much on a Sunday, probably because I'm relaxed and not having to concentrate on figures at work. It's good that your side effect symptoms are subsiding, are the dr's giving you anything else for the pain 😣 yes I think there alot of side effects with Methotrexate that I didn't know about, but I am grateful that on the whole it is keeping my pain at bay. Look after yourself. x

I came off the injections because I couldn't cope with the side effects any longer, they became so severe I contacted my RA team and I am waiting to change to something new. Hope you are doing ok
