Methotrexate and cold symptoms

Hi guys due to shielding it’s been ages since I had a cold but now’s the time!

Do you still inject/take methotrexate when you have a full blown cold or do you delay for a week until it settles? Cheers M x

I continued taking Methotrexate (tablets) and Hydroxychloroquine when I last had a cold - in Autumn 2019! 😱I was told by my rheumy nurse to stop Methotrexate for infections but not things like colds but you could always check with your team if you're not sure.

Hope you feel better soon - lots of fluids etc. And of course chocolate! 🍫😂

Never, they are too yummy 🤣

I always continued it and think that was what I was told to do unless I had a fever. The few colds I had on methotrexate did make me feel utterly deathly though 😢 so maybe make sure you can rest up and have lots of fluids and whichever of the chocolate or cake options you fancy!! 🤣

Always continued for a cold, I’ve only ever stopped for an infection ie when on antibiotics.

Hello Marie Are you sure it's just a cold? The Zoe Covid study reports today that the top two Covid symptoms for the double vaccinated now are typical cold symptoms: a runny nose and a headache. Raised temperature/ fever do not even feature in the top 5 symptoms yet still show on government website.

I had these yesterday and did a lateral flow test just to be on the safe side. It was negative, thank goodness! You may wish to do the same. 🤞

Yes, I was a bit worried as I’ve had the cold symptoms for 6 days already so I did a lateral flow test this morning. Thankfully negative. Rheummy nurse said delay injection till I feel a bit better as methotrexate will lower immune system further. M x

It’s always best to get advice from your Rheumy team. Hope you feel better soon x

Lft are used when symptomless, PCR used when you have symptoms

I know but technically I don’t have covid symptoms, I have a cold so that’s why I used a lateral flow just in case. I’m very careful and don’t mix with other people very often. The grand babies went back to school and 2 days later they all had colds. Their’s all gone. Mine just isn’t shifting quickly enough! M x

You only stop if you have infection and taking antibiotics

Hi marie66, As Jmaxjayne states above, do NOT take the lateral flow test as been totally accurate. It isn’t! None of these tests are 100% accurate but the DIY lateral flow test is probably the least accurate!

To add a little more to my above comment….there was a guy who had to quarantine in a hotel for 10 days after arriving back in the country. His initial test was negative. On Day 8 he took a further test (as per the requirement) and he tested positive! How, may we all ask is that possible? He’d not interacted with anyone being locked up in his hotel room for 8 days. He had to then quarantine for another 10 days…all at his expense!

Could the test result have been wrong? My guess it was!

Yes, I would continue - I haven't had many colds over the years; can't remember the last one, but methotrexate doesn't need to be stopped I'm sure. That's what I have been told.

Hope you recover pdq.

I was always told to stop MTX for any colds; it is a viral infection. But I was not to stop HCQ.

Hope you fight it off quickly.

Hi C. Yes that’s exactly what rheummy nurses said so I’ve kept up everything else and just delayed this weeks metoject until I’m on the mend! M x
