Hi catwoman

I've only just seen your previous post about the itching. I've had similar problems scalp wise - even thought I had nits and treated accordingly 2 or 3 times! (I didn't- just couldn't think of anything else to try)!

Eventually I was referred to dermatology who diagnosed discoid lupus. Funnily enough the treatment (in addition to my other RA drugs), was Hydroxychloroquine. I'm not suggesting for one moment though that you have this too! Many of the RA drugs (such as MTX) can cause skin sensitivity, especially in the sun.

The useful tips the dermatologist gave me, which may benefit you were to avoid sun as much as possible (sorry), wear a hat in the sun, always use factor 50 protection (he recommended ultrasun, sunsense, la Roche Posay and Eucerin). Often these brands will have an anti allergy/sun sensitive version too. As for the scalp, I've often found e45 anti itch shampoo helpful, but he recommended eucerin dermo capillaire calming urea shampoo (5% urea), which is a bit more costly but very good. I also now use a eucerin shower foam which is very nice too.

Unfortunately, none of these products come very cheaply! I've shopped around on different sites and found one called Escentual to be pretty good. They often have 15 - 20% off products (often just French pharmacy ones which covers most of those brands). These offers make the prices very competitive. BTW, I don't work for them or have any connections to the company!😁😁

Anyway, hope this info may be of some use, and hope you manage to get some relief! X🤞

Kags (another cat lady)!

I bought some La Roche-Posay sun products in a lovely pharmacy in Zell am See, Austria a couple of summers ago, from a super pharmacy called Bipa. I was always calling in! They were/are a bit more expensive than some others but those products are excellent. I had Sunsense recommended by dermatologist as Sulpha gave me urticaria solaris. It was like spreading lard on myself and I couldn’t do it on my legs myself. I don’t go below a F50 and you’ve to look for 4* on the bottle and the endorsement. I use Sanex unperfumed shower gel and love Neutrogena body lotion sorry which instantly improves the texture of the skin and is very gentle. Anything Neutrogena I like. It’s not an aerosol and it’s not a spritzer. Kind of inbetween. My friend who has eczema loves Aveeno products which are oat based I believe. X

PS The Neutrogena body mist moisturiser is called ... Deep moisture express body mist. Soothing and takes away the tickles too if you skin feels irritated by heat/sweat. It’s a featherlight mist so it’s feet easy to apply.

Hi NK

Ooh, Austria - lovely. Never been, but in my dreams I'd certainly like to!

Well, snap! on the products! I also really like aveeno and use theirs regularly. (Yes, I do love trying products! Don't get me started on hair products ........!) I haven't used that many neutrogena products (no reason), but I'll definitely be looking at that mist. I've used various nivea ones which I liked, and some sanex too. You are right, some of those sun creams are too difficult to rub in - like wearing a bandage! The sunsense one I liked was a tinted matte factor 50 face lotion that was nice and easy to rub in. They also did a factor 50 roll on I quite liked. Trying the eucerin products this year though!😄 I think the ultrasun was the "bandage" consistency I hadto give up on. As you say, La Roche Posay are excellent too! So.much choice and so little time - haha!! BTW, the Escentual site I mentioned has 20% off everything atm, (or did yesterday), and they do lots of French products. I'm sure I'll have to have another peek later .........👀xx

Ps. I'm trying to find the perfect hand soap at the moment that doesn't irritate my skin. I've been using l'occitane gentle milk or verbena (I think), which I can tolerate but it always seems to stop lathering about two-thirds through the bar. I can't tolerate dove, nivea was ok but didn't like the scent and I've just finished a l'avene which was ok but very messy and still irritated a bit. The quest goes on .........xx

Haha! It does get you like that doesn't it?! Cost me a fortune in anti nit products-all in vein!😁😉

I forgot to say that there are also topical lotions that can be prescribed by Dermatologists and perhaps GP's. These are things such as Dermovate scalp lotion and Bettamouse (I think that was it)! These treatments are steroid based so obviously, need to be used sparingly but do help.

Really pleased you found my ramblings helpful. Good luck with getting some relief xx😊

Hi Catwoman4. I found that taking a probiotic that blocks histamine production has almost completely stoped my various skin problems (itching - scales - eczema - boils...from RA, MTX and sun exposure - I think). I also use vetiver and lavendar essential oils to heal skin problems. I THINK I notice an improvement in the reduction of heat I feel in my hands and feet since starting the probiotic.

Not what you're looking for?
