Statins and Rituximab

Has anyone been advised to have Statins with Rheumatoid Arthritis , and on a biologic like Rituximab, did you experience any side effects?

I have been on statins for years no problems. When I started barcitnib they double checked I was on statins as it can cause a rise in cholesterol. I’ve had no problems

Hi. Yes I’m on Rituximab and my GP started me on Lipitor (atorvastatin). I developed very bad lower back pain (had back issues for many years prior to developing RA) and had to stop. I’m pretty sure it was the drug causing it. Now I need to discuss with GP what we try next.Incidentally my cholesterol level is coming down now I’m on a low carbohydrate diet.

I have been on Lipitor since before I had RA….20+ year ago,I found adding the Rtx made no difference.

The only time I had to stop the Lipitor was when I had Shingles & the drugs I was prescribed were not compatible with statins.

My GP just put me on them based on family history and RA so on week 2 at the moment but on Olumiant.

All I know about statins is that they affect your joints. Not a great thing when you already have RD.

Hi yes I was put on statins because the baricitinib causes high cholesterol apparently

Hi I’m also on it and liptor and before started my meds. My cholesterol was fine then after few months it started to rise but my cholesterol was cast as boarder line. It’s never gone past yet but as it’s in family along with heart disease. It’s in my best interest she says lol
