Exercise diet and life

So after a month of reducing things down and getting food shop to only good foods and re training hubby on what I will and won’t buy, I have hit the GO point today.

Joined WW as a free 3 months and tracking everything on my phone and rebooted my exercise with 4 x 15mins slots to build from per day and get this body to a better place.

I know it won’t be easy as the RA OA Fibromyalgia etc etc will have different views on some days but I am going to do 12weeks to aim for and see what happens.

Thank god we were only freshly prepared foods only so the changes are not huge just much more exercise.

I wont I just need to change things up as never been at home so much in my life or do so little so I need to change things to make the body realise I am the owner not the illness/disease.

Good for you!

Hubby and I haven't got the food/weight issue but I really need to give myself a kick up the bum and start exercising.

He walks the dog (fast!) but I'm a real couch potato - always have been. Bought an exercise bike and it's become a lovely home for the resident spiders and my daily 15 min YouTube session with Mr Motivator got "forgotten" after a few weeks - really must start that again.

Hopefully AquaFit will start soon and then I'll try to start swimming as well.

Swimming is my first love and cycling but I live on a country road so no excuse to keep doing the walks and build them up already do 15-20 a day just need to do more.

Boxerlady in reply to Deeb1764

I've got no excuse at all - just laziness!

That made me chuckle x

a lady after my own heart lol...my exercise bike is also a lovely dust collector the past few months! I used to be able to eat and not exercise until I got diagnosed ra and suddenly it’s like I just don’t have the motivation but the newly found stone on the hips is starting to make me rethink the status of my bike! I work stupidly long hours and never switch off so my free time is all about the couch !! Must make an effort!

Hello Deeb this time last year I was just diagnosed and the steroids the weight was scary, I did calorie counting by myself the weight gain stopped but no losses, I joined an app called NutraCheck free for a week, I paid £23.99 for the year I’ve now lost 11/2 stone it’s really slow but it works have been on this since August, the forum is helpful as well, lots of advice, I’ve just started fast 5:2 the last 3 weeks, 2 days a week non consecutively 800 cals and eat normal but healthy the other 5 it great 😊 a lot of people on this app combine it with WW, wish you all the best of luck.

Just wanted to add I don’t have low-fat substitutes as they normally just full of sugar, I still have butter, whole milk, olive oil, oily fish.

Deeb1764 profile image
Deeb1764 in reply to quatjen

Yes the low fat stuff is full of extras so I tend to stick to natural so I know nothing hidden¬!

I joined WW a few months ago but I actually swapped back to SW as I was much more familiar with their syns etc. It really did make a difference to be accountable and like you, I don’t swap the whole foods for low fat etc. I don’t think our immune systems are designed for the synthetic replacements. Good luck and fingers crossed, every small change can make a big difference 😀

Agree, all the low fat, diet type things tend to be full of rubbish. Simple foods, with lots of variety. But if you fall for a doughnut, well tomorrow is another day!

Deeb1764 in reply to helixhelix

It is not too off what we eat already just some tweaking but more exercise and making sure I know what I have eaten a bit more! AND yes no beating yourself up when you eat a naughty!

I was extremely restrained....and had plain boiled potatoes 😇

Cooked it yesterday, as so easy, took off some of the fat today reheated it and gobbled it up.

So Jealous .. even the healthy version 😁

I adore oxtail...haven’t had that for a few years but you’ve got me thinking now👍😆

helixhelix profile image

I rarely eat meat, and even more rarely red meat but I just suddenly had a real desire for ox-tail! Nothing like it....

Its weird but hubby was talking about this the other day as he loves it - does not do much for me. However we hardly eat red meat but the odd treat is a t bone shared with salad. We love fish but oh my the prices of fish these days is sky high.

I can't like your comment for some reason, but totally agree with you. It's amazing though the foods you may think were fairly healthy add up to a lot of your smart points!! Good luck ❤️

I think for me it was doing a slow build to even better eating and so now it’s normal but just tracking everything with the app is easy. We can all do it that need too and we can all keep each other motivated on here too. So many have been doing it and hit their goals so it can be done! X

I know, I used to be so good, I've let myself go in lockdown😣

Deeb1764 profile image
Deeb1764 in reply to Flor1rence

I think many in this boat but this disease needs us to be as healthy as we can be even if it is so hard with pain and joints. I did a 10mins walk (I am lucky as by fields) yesterday and just sun out and breathing in fresh air just felt so good. I used to go on holidays and do 12mile walks up and down hills and just doing 10mins was hard with my knees but I just knew the start of being better mentally too.

Once you get started I'm sure you will find it just becomes what you do Dee, as you say it is good to feel that you have control over some aspects of your life.I've lost 5 and a half stone and am now back to my pre diagnostic weight. I like looking like my old self, even if I don't feel it 😊

Deeb1764 profile image

I have your story in my head Mmrr so I am determined to get my mindset right and achieve this even if I have a bad day just get back on the horse/bike and keep going!

Hi, I've just joined WW on that plan too, needed to after three lockdowns and living in joggers for nearly a year! It's the first time I've joined a slimming club but they have done the App very well?!

Good Luck with it! Xxx

Well done Deeb, you’ve really jumped into action, you sound very determined & I don’t doubt you will be a winner, But if you have a wobble don’t worry about it, except it & just pick it up again the next day, but I think you are going to hammer it, as you have been doing the ground work prep for the last month anyway, it’ll be a doddle, I use a lot if their recipes as they are really delicious & interesting, all the very best to you for the next 12 weeks...

Deeb1764 profile image
Deeb1764 in reply to Durrell

thank you I am on a mission for sure and hubby just having to go with the flow too whether he likes it or not!

Durrell profile image
Durrell in reply to Deeb1764

Honestly Deeb my hubby much prefers it when we follow the plan, as I menu plan & we eat a good healthy varied diet, all delicious & we save money in the long run as when menu planing, I write my shopping list so it’s all done in one shop. Ok you may buy a few things to get started initially but once it in it’s really the fresh stuff in the weekly shop & it’s done.., also I keep the plan out so everyday I just take out the freezer chicken etc & I know what’s for dinner everyday, I love that, being organized!!

Deeb1764 profile image
Deeb1764 in reply to Durrell

We are quite strict with what we buy and both trained as chefs so this helps. Hubby has a love for cream and cheese but he know this changes as a treat dish so he is ok (allegedly) 🤣

Well week 1 weigh in and lost 6lb this week! Plus I did more activity maybe a little too much as body feeling slammed by everything but I know on the right tracks just got to pace myself a little bit and not be on a Olumiant high and I can achieve anything and everything in one week.
