Blood clots and the astra zenica vaccine

I am Getting a little fed up with the public being told it's a coincidence. Whenever someone seems to be suffering 'effects' following the jab. They said the blood clots had little to do with the jab and now just a couple of weeks later i suspect we are all thinking ....crap ! I've had that particular jab. Because they are now admitting it. I, personally am rather concerned as mum had varicose veins her father died of thrombosis.. and am already thinking that I don't want another astra zenica jab and I believe that if I inform my GP of the health problems to my late family that he should refer me to another vaccine.

Personally youve more chance if getting dvt from a long plane rude or having a car crash than the stats they are quoting. 19 cases in 30 million! A lot of youngsters are put on contraceptive pills for lots of reasons which has risks of dvt too but no fuss about that.

They would normally class it as a very rare side effect abd it would be on the bottom if the pamphlet ( look at paracetamol which is banned in the usa! .)

As its a new ish vaccine they are being ultra cautious. I would have it today. My 24 yr old daughter is due hers this evening and will happily take whatever she us offered as she says statistically your more at risk of death from covid.

But its a personal decision of course. But i think they are being ultra open and cautious.

I said this to my hubby last week re the pill and blood clots. Good relevant points Allanah re paracetamol and dvt on a plane. If I’d have been given AZ and was awaiting the second one I would still go and have it. Absolutely a personal choice though. Hope all goes well for your daughter’s jab. x

Actually..Paracetamol is available in the US...where it is called Acetaminophen!

allanah profile image
allanah in reply to AgedCrone

Yes it had the same problems as this vacccine as it was banned due to possibility of causing cancer . Again they changed labels and names names etc so it was again brought in . I was sort of trying to compare drugs are investigated then withdrawn or changed very often. But i get what you mean. But the risk of paracetamol causing cancer and vaccines causing rare clots is rare. Thankfully x

My mother died of a pulmonary embolism and my dad of a heart attack, I have hypertension. I had the AZ vaccine and will happily have my second, for 2 reasons. One is that I just cannot continue shielding, it is not worth it and the second is that I also feel that I should have it as we all have to do our bit towards herd immunity. The risks of covid far outweigh the risks from the vaccine as JVT showed on tele yesterday so I am not worried. It is a personal decision now for each of us.

Thank.you for that reply. I am scared to say the least and not the only one I am sure. In the absence of being able to chat to my GP, you actually have put my mind at rest.

Definately !!!!😘

With the TV coverage this particular vaccine has had it's only natural to be cautious, but rather than the initial headlines when you look at the actual data the statistics show it's an extremely rare side effect.

The only way we are going to get out of this mess with covid is to get vaccinated, it would be great to see all the available vaccines and statistical information made available so people can make an informed decision which is right for them.

Personally I'm more afraid of catching covid and getting a blood clot from that, my sister had covid at Christmas and for someone who is very "hard" and not one to wallow she was brought to her knees.

I've had 1 astra zenica vaccine and I would have the 2nd but thats my view and I apprecaite your view, we need to work together to produce information thats informative rather then inflammatory headlines (pardon the pun ).

I will say the astra zenica vaccine is the only one currently being produced at cost and no profit, all the other private companies are making money from their vaccines, now if I were a cynical person 👀

You have posted exactly same as others on the site following my post ! Thank you so much. Sitting here alone mulling it over and over was, I must admit making me so nervous.

Yes, I’m afraid to say that many journalists favour sensationalism over truth these days. (I think I can say that as I’m in the profession) 😂 The data speaks clearly - as does the profit side of things. I recently interviewed the Global Vaccine Alliance charity - eye opening stuff.

So true about sensational journalism ... they’re trying to sell their papers with scary headlines rather than report the true facts. The Daily Mail is one of the worst in my opinion!

Hessie5 profile image

You’re not alone, I hear you - they do need to think about how they are communicating information, but also do have a duty to report these side effects. Try not to worry - are you able to mix them?

flossy63 profile image
flossy63 in reply to Hessie5

I was wondering of I could mix them. I'm hoping I can get to speak to my GP before I get called for my second one.

There have been no reported cases of blood clots with the second jab as far as I’ve read. And if there had been I’m sure the media would have been all over it like a rash!

It’s your body, and your decision, but I’d be rolling my sleeve up....

This article from the BBC gives a good balanced view in my opinion. bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-5...

It says your risk of dying from a blood clot after vaccination is about the same as your chance of being murdered next month or dying in a road collision every time you make a 250 mile car journey.

Im staying in next month then lol 😃😃am i ok this month 🤣 thanks for the link though, you know im joking xxxx

I had a massive stroke at age 52. I had my AZ vaccine early Feb and due to get my 2nd in 2 weeks. I have no concerns as the numbers are extremely small, you have more risk of getting clots from Covid if your not vaccinated. There has been no clots following 2nd dose, all have been after 1st dose usually in the 7-14 day period following the vaccine. We each have to make our own decisions, but I feel safe having my 2nd. Take care x

Maureen, firstly I hope you are ok now strokes are frightening. Member of my family recently had a mild stroke . I wish you so much good health. And if you're ok with going ahead then so am I. Thank you for your comment.

Runrig01 in reply to flossy63

Thank you, I was lucky it was witnessed so I was thrombolysed, and made a good physical recovery. It has left me with dreadful memory issues, but not complaining. I worked as a ward sister but had to take ill health retirement.

I’m more anxious that those of us on immunosuppressants have less protection from the vaccine. A study looking at the Pfizer and moderna vaccine showed some on an immunosuppressant only had an 8% efficacy. I’m on 3 immunosuppressants and have shielded throughout, thankfully I can still take precautions as I don’t work now.

Read Professor Van Tam’s opinion. His about the sanest explanation why the AZ vaccine is safer than a whole lot of drugs we happily take.

The % of thrombosis reported is negligible .....You are probably more likely to

Contract Covid than experience a Thrombosis.

flossy63 profile image
flossy63 in reply to AgedCrone

Yes I listen to that gentleman a lot.. unfortunately I am only human a d.prone to be concerned, when there is thrombosis in my parent and her parent. But not have I said once I wouldn't get my second jab I am just very concerned.

There was a Dr on BBC news 24 this afternoon answering concerns from the public. One was a lady who had a genetic predisposition to DVTs. He said that there was nothing to suggest people with this disposition were at any greater risk than the rest of the public, as it wasn’t anything to do with the genes but that it for some reason triggers a rare immune response that reduces the platelets. Hopefully this reassured you some. 🤗

Hurrah, my 24 yr old and her flatmate got their AZ jabs tonight. They are over the moon !! 😁

I had my second AZ two weeks ago. So far, so good. It's natural to be concerned. but on balance I am more afraid of catching Covid than getting this rare blood clot. The media pumping pessimism and other countries cancelling their orders doesn't help. Has everyone watched this wonderful lady whose brother died from a clot but who tells us to carry on getting the AZ?

I'm getting fed up with insisting it's coincidence. These are experimental vaccines so have high risks. I don't why people assume that blood clots may only occur just after the vaccine it could take weeks or months.Brushing off serious side affects is in the long term harmful for future medicines and as for injecting youngsters there is absolutely no reason for it.

Here's the Yellow card scheme scheme information for anyone interested and if anyone is 'jabbed' they should report reactions.
