My rheumatologist deals with my inflammatory arthris in my hands but despite meds (metoject) the pain in my feet and shoulders is unrelenting. My symptoms are persistent and worsening despite treatment.
Is it advisable to ask my rheumy if it could be osteoarthritis as well as RA that I have or would that be another referral by my gp?
Rheumies deal with the whole musculoskeletal system so are more knowledgeable than a GP for this. It could also be that the MTX isn’t doing enough for you. Inflammatory arthritis is systematic, ie it’s in your body as a whole not just in your hands. So it can pop up anywhere.
Raise it with your rheumy and ask for further investigation as to cause such as ultrsounds.

It’s their job to look after you! And not raising health issues can lead to worse problems down the line - which is more of a challenge for the NHS 🙃
Unfortunately feet problems often get dismissed by Rheumatology professionals but I make sure mine are looked at or discussed. If it took a while for your RA to be brought under control or if it is still not well controlled joint damage will have already occurred.Whatever the cause your Rheumatologist should offer some treatment and a referral to a podiatrist and/or physio so do insist on some help.
It's definitely not under control yet, it's been an ongoing situation for as long as I can remember. Different meds, constantly trying to get the right one. I'm definitely going to keep mentioning my feet from now on.
It’s taken me 6 years to get my feet taken seriously! My GP was the one who helped in the end. Now I’m Under care of foot specialist. OA all over them. Waiting for injection for Morton’s neuroma. Had several in the past. Feet don’t contribute to you rheum score so that’s why rheumatologists are not so interested! Crazy eh? Those of us who ask get, eventually. It’s just the way it is.

You can ask your Rheumatologist about any health issues...if they are outside his experience he will refer you on to the appropriate department.
I will do that. My poor feet are crying out. Onwards and upwards. 💕
