Alcohol is not contra-indicates with either of those drugs, but it might upset your stomach lining more than normal, or enhance the emotional effects of the steroid. If you are not used to alcohol I would be careful and perhaps opt for mix of wine and fizzy water...

Thank you helixhelix I do like a glass of wine and between rheumatoid arthritis and coronavirus I feel fed up with life

Have some wine and enjoy it. As HH said, be careful if youve not had alcohol in a while - maybe have a glass of water in between, if having more than the one glass.

For me, I don’t drink a lot of alcohol ( and I really am a total lightweight!) but sometimes, it is just nice to let go and feel like life is a bit more normal x

Thanks Eiram50 I did enjoy a couple of glasses I just wanted as you say to feel a bit normal when celebrating a special occasion but I will be careful

Hi Coisty, I think only you can make that decision and along with your doctors and the meds you take. ie if they've advised you not to drink with them.

I think a lot of people I know have broken dry January for sure, a couple of glasses of wine to celebrate your DIL's birthday and the doom and gloom of winter and lockdown...can't hurt can't it?!!

I personally went right off alcohol with the menopause and RA, but still enjoy some vodka every now and then. Enjoy your evening x

Hi Coisty, I too love a glass or three of wine 😉 but when in November the rheumatologist put me on mtx & said I need to watch my alcohol intake & drink no more than the Governments guidelines I thought oh ok, I bought a couple of bottles of low alcohol & zero alcohol wines & drinks & have found a rose wine called Garnacha (you’ll see that’s the name I’ve got on here 😂 struggled to find anything not already taken) which is pretty nice, I buy it from tescos around £3, I normally drink white or red wine but this one is I think the nicest out of the low alcohol ones I’ve tried, it’s 0.5%, I like the feeling of having a drink with everyone else & not drinking squash 🙄 I do occasionally have an odd glass of “real” wine as I’m no saint but do feel a bit rough the next day, whether this is from the various tablets or from not being used to it anymore x

Hi Garnacha I like a glass of wine also but honestly dont know what to do for the best this past year has been hellish would just like to have a night without worrying about something

in reply to Garnacha

Thanks Garnacha I will have a look for that wine

Thanks Garnacha. I have been alternating days with alcohol/no alcohol. I read that it's good to pause alcohol for 2/3 weeks after vaccination so I am trying to do that. One week so far. It's okay but I'd love a drink now. Good idea for a spritzer if you can't find low alcohol wine.

Hi there, I don't take any alcohol, to be honest I lost the taste for it when RA clicked in. Some folks on the forum do partake of a little without any ill effects. If you haven't haven't had any alcohol for a while then gently does it I would imagine.

Have a good evening whatever you decide to do.

in reply to Mmrr

Thanks Mmrr I will just have a wee drop and enjoy

Surprisingly just one drink a week was enough to flare my joints and affect my liver readings (alt and ast). So i stopped completely, felt my liver was stressed enough with the methotrexate and biologic

in reply to RAexperiences

Oh dear that's not good unfortunately it's to late I had 2 glass of wine blood test on Tuesday so 🤞hopefully no harm done wont be repeating anytime soon

I've been off methotrexate for 18 months but when I was on it my rheumatologist told me to beware of combining with too much alcohol because of liver damage.

in reply to Sohmui

Thanks Sohmui I will be very careful with my alcohol intake in future it will only be on very special occasions
