Methofill pen (part 2)

Just to say I injected with the methofill beast of a pen last night and it was so easy , it's like one of those stamps you got in a library when you check a book out !

It honestly didn't hurt at all and I didn't think it had actually gone in, stupidly I gave the injection site a gentle squish and yes it had injected !!

I did have to get physical with it trying to get it in the sharps bin (top bit of it is mahooosive) but I showed it who's boss and all sorted.

I'm totally happy to use the other 3 up ive got for this month.

So good to know if the pharmacy fluff up your prescription and you get this mtx pen its nothing to worry about 👍

It wasn’t really an issue as my GP supplied a month's worth of pre-dated prescriptions. It was easy enough to pop in to the Pharmacy whilst out shopping. They're very social places!

It was a hospital prescription for the first month so if I get on with hopefully get more 🙏

🤞Mine is a hospital prescription permanently as in my health authority, GPs don't do shared care for Methotrexate or Sulphasalazine so I only get my Hydroxychloroquine and Folic Acid from the GP. Yet another complication 🙄😂

Exactly the same for me. It’s extremely frustrating particularly as they’ve now changed the prescribing hospital which means a further journey to collect.

One good thing to have come out of being told to shield (I don't agree that I'm that much at risk and have taken the personal decision to strictly social distance although I'm not going out much) is that when I told the hospital pharmacy, they offered to post my medication. Since then, I've just said "you posted it last time" and they've done it again. It saves a 40-minute journey each way and I'm happy to avoid going into the hospital unnecessarily atm.

Mine comes via Royal Mail so no "catchment area". It's ridiculous how things vary depending on where you live 🤐

They won’t use Royal Mail alas, as it’s a cytotoxic drug. It’s going to get worse as they’re streamlining their services which, as we know, will result in chaos!

Well, they post my Metoject AND Sulfasalazine both of which have the dire warning "cytotoxic drug" stickers so yet another postcode lottery!

That's really good news Marion. It looked better than the Metoject to me in the link that Kim from NRAS sent you. You don't have to worry about it any more. Just goes to show that size doesn't really matter! 😊 I did have a laugh at your description though about not knowing whether to roll it under your arms or inject. 😁😁

I use a nordimet pen . Similar way of using it but doesn’t look like an offensive weapon 😁 glad it all went well x

Just the 3 injections (not syringes) in the UK... Metoject (Medac UK), (Nordimet (Nordic Pharma Ltd) & Methofill (Accord Healthcare Ltd).

Good to hear you had no problems Liz. Having watched the video I did wonder if those with dexterity issues would find this type of injector easier than pushing down on Metoject push button type. I wouldn't think anyone would have a problem asking for Methofill by name as they're the same cost, in fact Methofill is 1p cheaper than Metoject in the 3 doses I compared.

I'm so cynical because I presumed metoject was more expensive and the pharmacy were giving me the cheap stuff !

Yes I think these maybe better for people with dexterity issues, i could see holding the metoject and stretching to push button could be a problem.

As video shows just plonk on skin and push right down, no problem, im really pleased.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I am still taking MTX pills that make me so nauseous because I don't like needles .

Honestly both brands of mtx pen i find really don't hurt and they do help big time with sickness .

My sister has a big fear of needles so understand how you feel, you can't see the needle either unless you really look for it, really is like a pen x
