Hi, I had an access to work assessment for some adaptations at work. And this has been approved.
I have a call on Monday to talk about my difficulties commuting to work.
I live in London, and need to get three buses to the school where I work. I am part time. But this is becoming very hard with new bus limits and not being able to get a seat.
Does anyone have any experience of doing this, because I am a bit apprehensive of how the call may go.
Thanks!
A x

Hi A, I have access to work support including travel to and from work via taxis.
I was asked to provide three taxi quotes of the cost of each journey. When I first applied for this support I was asked to get my GP to sign a form that I had to complete to confirm my health conditions and difficulties using public transport. My GP did this for me. I sent the form back with three quotes and was awarded 10 journeys a week and the amount of money access to work will reimburse me. I have all my taxi costs reimbursed as have a free bus pass.
I initially pay for my costs and complete a claim for for my weekly taxi costs with receipts and the money is paid into my bank account within about two weeks.
Mine was done alongside my HR department. I was approved for taxis to work and home. I was asked to get quotes from 3 taxi firms. Then they worked out my contribution not sure how they did that but it wasn't a lot. I got receipts for each journey and sent them in. It was straightforward.
My experience is as Summerrain’s only I was awarded a contract with chosen taxi firm and send invoice to access to work each month, who pay the taxi firm directly.
As a social worker, I have to make many visits during my working day to houses, meetings, schools etc and was awarded an additional contract for taxis, when ‘in work’.
