Vitamins?

Hi fountains of much acquired wisdom,

My RA is fairly stable at the moment and I am only on 10mg Methotrexate

Weekly. A podiatrist recently commented on my very thin toe nails and recommended Vitamin B. I looked into it and others say Vitamin C.

I take a Vitamin D every day and mega fish oil pills as recommended by rheumatologist. Any ideas to improve hair and nails but not interfere with Methotrexate?

Thanking you in anticipation of the benefit of your vast experience.

And thank you for all your advice, off-topic music quiz, photos, jokes and quotes - they brighten my day.

Ask your rheumy nurse....she will know.

We can tell you a healthy diet should mean you don’t need to supplement with vitamins but she will know from your blood tests what Vits or Supplements could help!

I was advised to use biotin . I do use biotin and a marine collagen powder. Helps with so many things. I’m on mtx

Might be best to check with your rheumy or GP first before taking anything . As AC has mentioned they will know from your bloods if or what supplements you may need. Most people have lower levels of Vit D in this country and more so in the Winter months when there is little or no sunshine.

During my last appointment with my nurse specialists she advised me to take vitamin D, I told her i take a multivitamin tablet each day and she said that was fine. I'm in remission and my bloods apart from a raised alt in 2015 have always been good, I was diagnosed with Ra in 2012.

I was advised by my consultant to take Vitamin D as well - used to pop a pill every day but found them hard to get recently after all the publicity, but I've made a delicious substitute in the form of Potters Malt Extract with Cod Liver Oil (Butterscotch flavour) - tastes like malty toffee and one big, yummy, tooth-rotting spoonful has the daily requirement of VItamin D. Just don't tell my dentist. 😉

I take a multi vitamin everyday with vitamin D.

Aside from vitamins I try not to over wash my hair. Which is hard when it's thin. I wash it every 3 days and wear it up on day 3. If I can get away with it I push it to 4 days. I also use a boar hair brush which is meant to improve the condition of your hair. Last time I went to the hairdressers she said it was thicker, but she could have been saying what she knew I wanted to hear. 🙂
