I received my PIP review form yesterday and I noticed that it now asks for 'Profession' I was always lead to believe that the PIP application had no bearing on whether you worked or not. Is this a covert way of trying to align what you do with the application to reduce the award??
Also of any members have links on how to complete the form with examples of wording would be great.
Surely its a simple thing you just tell them your job title ? I don't know think anyone can help if its a simple question if you're a doctor then you're a doctor ; if a welder then you're a welder. A housewife is a housewife. Etc. It would seem unlikely to be linked to anything really as a Government body they may well have access powers anyway. But if of course you don't want them to know your job then it does look like you've something to hide which would perhaps reduce an award.

I've never claimed and no intention of doing so. I have RA but its well controlled with medications. So to say I am disabled would be fraud.
Then you are very lucky and I do hope your condition remains that way for the rest of your life. Many, including myself have not been so fortunate.
I've had RA for many years and worked as well. In Local Government Finance including Benefits so be aware that yes an award can be reduced if your circumstances have changed. Thus if on the original application you said you were incapacitated to the point that your job was light duties and now because your position has changed and you've got a position that requires you to lift or stand all day then yes its entirely possible the claim can be adjusted. Its the situation as of now so my advice from a retired but qualified point of view is if you tell the truth then nothing to worry about providing the circumstances have remained the same regarding employment. But you do have to complete the form if you want to have the claim renewed even if it is postponed for a while. My guess from your post is that if it's been postponed already it is unlikely to be postponed again. I'm not sure why you're worried it really is a question that could be used primarily for statistical purposes so they collate how many people on PIP work as bus drivers, how many are nurses etc etc.
Just one thing never part with money to access or get benefit advice, the CAB, or your local Christians against Poverty, Age Concern, Welfare Rights Office will all help for free.
My initial post was an open question regarding the insertion of the term 'Profession' and were the DWP now trying to align occupation with the overall PIP assessment as this was something that had never been required before.
I was therefore seeking clarity on this point and this point alone. I was not worried about completing this section but was slightly dubious as to the possible underlining motive.
I asked the community for their views on this topic and as usual the community responded admirably.
CAB were also surprised that the DWP had inserted this into the form and suggested, albeit rather tentatively, that they may be trying to gauge workplace adjustments for those that have a debilitating condition such as RA.
And, if I may add, with the greatest of respect, you did seem to go on a bit of a rant with the insinuation that my post was in some way referring to not wanting to add my profession as I was potentially making a false claim or as you eloquently put it 'fraud' which is clearly not the case. I am extremely happy that a fellow RA sufferer is doing really well on their medication and has never had or felt the need to complete or go through the PIP assessment process and long may that be the case.
No I wasn't insinuating anything but just saying what it might look like. In response to your comment about realigning the award with the work somebody does so reducing . And I said that it might be for statistical purposes nothing sinister at all. However benefits can go up and down and so I can't think why that has caused you to take offence. So I shan't try to help you anymore but it was good advice. Furthermore I said it would be fraud for me not you.
I've gone on the welfare rights web page which can help you fill in the form. I've been trying to tell PIP about the number of changes I have but I'm getting no where so a friend suggested welfare rights.

All of those charities are now stretched beyond capacity and in many areas they cannot offer you any help within the returned form timetable.
Many of those paid sites do offer very good structured advice that is far beyond what the others do and in fact are now being quoted and used not only on charity sites but the media.
A website offering advice which is paid for is taking advantage of people in need. It's morally wrong. And moreover you don't know who is giving advice , their qualifications nor if they are insured to give advice. Please put a link to the media as it may be a scam and even PIP offers its own advisory service .I stand by my advice as I'm retired so I'm not insured but there are a good few organisations which give good, free impartial advice f2f which is great.

Are these charities supposed to pay for the running costs of their site, their trading, their forums etc for nothing? Their costs have to be met somewhere, I was quoting benefitsandwork several times yet you never mentioned that.

I agree. If it's controlled and you can live a normal life then you wouldn't need to claim. They don't award pip for RA anyway they award it for how it adversely affects your ability to function.
So yes to claim for controlled RA would be fraud but you wouldn't get it anyway.

Thanks...my PIP has been extended twice the latest to May 2020 but I now have to complete this form by 25th October or they will stop the money.
I wa told when I did mine last year (as I had just over three weeks by the time the forms had reached me) that I could phone up the DWP and ask for an extension if needed. I didn’t need but the offer was there.

Asking for your profession is innocuous enough. I filled in mine & my award was actually increased from my previous one so I don't think your profession has any bearing on your award, only what you claim. If you're not in work just say so, otherwise give your work description. I can understand why you're querying it, experience of PIP does vary greatly.
As for help filling in the form, just be honest, like you were with your first application. This may help further though citizensadvice.org.uk/benef...
If you need to add something like gathering medical info, other than what they've had previously (inc in your initial PIP claim) & wish to apply for an extension just call them. That's what I did with my initial claim & was given a further 14 days.

I sent mine bk over a week ago and I just put stay at home mum as I didn't know what to put plus I am a stay at home mum. I suffer from agoraphobia, RA, depression and anxiety. My 16 year old daughter helps me alot when I have flare ups with my RA witch is often, she will lift heavy things for me and help me round the house. Sometimes I cant even lift the kettle up or a saucepan with water in as my RA is in my wrist, fingers, knuckles, ankles and toes. X
I do hope it eases for you...I am awaiting an appointment with a surgeon regarding the fusing of both my left and right wrists...so I feel your pain....try and keep smiling..
Thank you 😊. Its mainly my index fingers, thumbs an wrists that are the most painful plus if I kneel down on my feet it's so painful getting bk up due to the osteoarthritis in my left ankle and toes 🤦♀️. X
Yes, I often dread having to get down onto the floor because it's so difficult to try to get back up...a real military exercise with lots of 'moans and groans'. It would be quite comical if it wasn't so serious.

I have the same and recently had the trapeze bone in my right wrist removed as the osteoarthritis had been crumbling the bone, its now magic although the recovery is slow with lots of physio, now have fingers problem, and infected ankles that frequently give way and I over I go,

So sorry for such a late reply to your post. I work full time and get PIP. I had a face to face assessment in 2018 and was amazed they asked me questions about how I managed at school and college and university and asked me about how I work. I am 45 now and am registered deaf/blind although do have some bearing and sight so feel a fraud saying deaf/blind but it is the term my sensory team use for their register. I have RA too. I explained that I had support with adapted resources and a TA at school and college and then had disabled persons grant at university for specialist software and reader at uni and now access to work for specialist software and assistive tech for the phone. I did get my PIP so just wondering if this is all just part of the process now. Access to work is part of DWP so they know that I receive it but suppose they just had to ask and gave them more examples of the support I need for daily life activities due to my sensory loss and RA. Hope CAB were able to offer some useful advice today? x

If you state your case honestly with supporting evidence, you shouldn't have a problem and need all this outside help.
I've had to fight my case several times but have always won in the end. No help needed.
