Methotrexate injections ! Metoject pen

Marionfromhappydays profile image

Whoever invented this injection pen is awesome !

I did my first mtx injection last night and I can honestly say I didn't feel anything, so quick, easy and painless.

The difference for me from the MTX tablets and injections is like night and day. Tablets was sick for 5 days , so far with injection (fingers crossed) no sickness.

Anyone battling with sickness and nausea for days with the methotrexate tablets please consider giving injections a go.

I am so hopeful that MTX works for me, glad I didn't give up on it, now will wait and see if it does its thing and helps these joints of mine out.

Just wanted to do a more positive post as we all know RA is a bumpy road x

Thank you for your help, have a fab weekend x

Thank you x

😁👍I’m delighted hopefully this works. I’m an advocate of the injections wish they put us on them straight away but it’s all about money x

So pleased all appears to be well Liz. Thanks for saying what you have about injections & the pen itself. The majority find they are so much better than tablets, it will help others who may be changing over.

Good news! Thank you so much for posting this. It will help some of those here worrying about changing to the injections All you need now is for the MTX to work it's magic.

Yes, they are brilliant!! Glad you found it easy and hope MTX starts to work quickly 🤞

Brilliant. As my first one is 16/10 this is really great to read :)

I bet the injections are more money so I bet they can’t have us all using them? 🤔 if they are that much better then it’s a shame you can’t just start with them from word go :/

Thanks for this positivity 👍

Yes they are more expensive (I had a nosey online and the tablets are 42p a month i think and the injections are £13 per one) so that must be why we all aren't put on the pen.

Good luck with yours lets hope ot works for us both x

Crumbs that is a big difference - yep - that is the absolute reason - and I guess that’s to be expected.

I’m crossing my fingers that I do well on it. Keep us posted with your progress too 👍

I did give the injections a go but made me ill so it’s not for everyone. I hope it continues to work for you.

So pleased all went well for you - injecting methotrexate was certainly a game changer for me - like you the nausea was horrible for me I hardly ever ate a thing - I have never looked back and I am sure it will be the same for you

Good to hear. I used to inject in the early evening so I could sleep through any side effects. And if I felt a bit queezy I would just increase my folic acid, just not in the day that I took my MTX.

Really pleased it worked for you xx

I did exactly the same x

Woohoo so glad worked for you

People are horrified when I say I inject myself each week. I just smile because I know how easy it is 😊 Hope it works well for you.

Can someone please ask if the people who make Benepali pens to make them less painful the spring loaded aspec of this pen is horrid makes it sore most times

Marionfromhappydays profile image
Marionfromhappydays in reply to Bethany02

Oh no, maybe they manufacturers need to talk to one another !

KittyJ profile image

Bethany have you tried injecting in different places? The spring action doesn’t hurt me I just get a sting from the liquid going in.

mmb50 in reply to Bethany02

I agree with you!! I use methofill pen for methotrexate which is brilliant. Would be great to have similar for Benepali

Bethany02 profile image
Bethany02

Yes but think that whole holding for 10 seconds after injecting bruises me but I bruise easy anyway

KittyJ profile image
KittyJ in reply to Bethany02

Bethany then it’s probably not the spring causing the pain as that goes off straight away. Are you pushing too hard, maybe it’s the pressure you are putting on it. ? I bruise sometimes but try to avoid areas I can see capillaries etc but it’s hard to sometimes.

That’s great you have finally been given injections..... I was so lucky as I have been on them since first diagnosed in June......unfortunately for me they still haven’t kicked in but I’m hopeful. Enjoy the ease 😊

Marionfromhappydays profile image
Marionfromhappydays in reply to Piglet007

Hopefully any day now they should start working for you, they can take a while cant they x

Yeah so glad I've got them earlier, managed to get a cancellation so didn't have to wait until November 👍

The injections are by far the better option. Drink plenty of water though on metho day it does help the dry mouth afterwardsxx

The injection is much better then the tablets but I seem to bleed after it sometimes?! I know people use different sites (my thigh) but not sure if I’m doing something wrong??

Marionfromhappydays profile image
Marionfromhappydays in reply to Kibeth

I bled a little too (injected in thigh also) , only like a drop or so. I took it as a good sign and the medicine had gone in 😅

Kibeth profile image
Kibeth in reply to Marionfromhappydays

That’s ok then lol thought I was doing something wrong 😀

Marionfromhappydays profile image
Marionfromhappydays in reply to Kibeth

The nurse did ask if I wanted a little plaster as some people bleed a little but I think taking plaster off would hurt more than injection 😁

Kibeth profile image
Kibeth in reply to Marionfromhappydays

😂😂 I’m just a stress head. Been on injections for a while now. I just put a plaster on then worry 🙄🙄

Been on them for nearly a year now, they are fab. I was very worried before I started them as I'm a bit squeamish and didn't know whether I would be able to but it's been fine!

Hi Please let me know how you get on. My daughter is taking 12.5mg per week tablets and may want to switch. Which Pen are you using, I have heard there are a few?

Thanks and good luck

Wishing your daughter all the best, i use metoject pen which is prescribed by the NHS. It's a single use disposible one, looks like a chunky pen, can't even see a needle 👍
