serious ankle pain today

Does anyone else get this? It's in the knobbly bones that stick out either side and underneath going all the way round. It was in both ankles and in my feet but the left was worse and the pain went all the way up to the back of my knee. I was shopping with my daughter and had to take my left shoe off when we got back to the car and wait for the pain to go before I could drive.

It really affected my walking. Both feet and ankles have been twinging ever since.

I have problems with my ankles especially the right in which I have had osteoarthritis for some time and RA as well for past two years. I would not be able to go on a shopping trip and walk for any length of time.

What does help me are the orthotics I wear in my shoes, which stop me pronating. They change the angle at which my ankle bones meet so there’s less grinding and pain plus I find they help my knees too. Perhaps some custom made orthotics might help you too.

Hi Lolabridge - I already wear orthotics for flat feet although they aren't custom made. I keep meaning to make an appointment with podiatry - my children are regulars! The pain today has come on quite suddenly, my wrists and hands have been really bad too for a few days.

Yes yes yes . This problem I have had for nearly 2 years . RA was very very active and most joints settled down after starting Biologic but still limping mobility problems in ankles with the right the worst. Ligaments and tendons along with weakness means I have been having physio and it’s so slow. They don’t expect my to be anywhere near good until Christmas 🙄 in fact physio doesn’t want me to return to work until then as it may make things worse. Probably have to stop working . I have had too much time off this year. I have orthotics and a good pair of support trainers but standing and walking even after 10 mins means problems for the rest of the day or longer.

The hot humid weather hasn’t helped the swelling has aggravated everything and set me back

Ps just woke up in the night the sheets and mattress were causing pain just touching my ankles and heels. Looks like I’m heading for another flare 🙄

Yes, all my knobbly bits of bone hurt 🙄 when touched, even lightly. Sometimes they are just sore.

Ankles, wrists, elbows and shoulders.

If I accidentally bump any of them, I could weep with the pain, then it settles into just being sore again.

I have this with little fingers on both hands and big toe joint both sides. They all ache and feel stiff (in fact toe joint on right foot has been like that since my early 20s) now it's in knuckles of my middle fingers both hands. If I knock them or even lightly brush them at a certain angle it's extremely sore. Weird.

The rest of my joints, elbows, shoulders, knees tend to throb at rest and hurt with certain movements but tend not to be painful to touch - yet.

I have had really bad ankles for a few months now but always had poorly feet and hands. My ankles never stop hurting even when sitting or in bed and the weight of the bedding can cause lots of pain. x

Yeah unfortunately I get this problem too we have just bought a 3 tog summer quilt which is perfect and doesn’t hurt so much when it’s resting on my feet. The only thing I can suggest is get a large cardboard box and cut it out and put it at the bottom of the bed to keep the covers off not ideal but unless you can get hold of a frame it’s a cheap solution. I hope your pain is temporary and it goes away quickly but my R.A. affects my ankles the most followed by knees and hips too and of course if your flaring it’s always worse.

I had Mortons Nuromas which people with RA often get, its like walking on broken glass it was agony. I had it surgically removed then they regrew and had injections und then again removed as they sometimes come back. But its been ok now for a good few years. My foot also bent to the left and it was straightened and that may have taken the pressure off the bones. Anyway its worth talking to your GP for an appointment to see an Orthopaedic Surgeon. I did see a podiatrist who made several pairs of insoles all useless and surgeon said he should have done a scan and referred as insoles never solve the problems of a twisted foot. Only think which I also still do is stretch my calf muscles by holding the back of the chair and taking foot back as far as I can and holding it. It for a few seconds hurts a bit worse but relieves pressure and controls the heel spur pain. I hope that helps but do urge you to ask your GP about seeing someone after the covid crisis is over.

Well, as is often the case it's gone today. 'It' is moving to pastures new. Probably my head - feeling a bit headachy.
