Hi everyone

Hope everyone is bearing up . I just wondered if anyone has tried Turmeric supplements and what there experiences were ? I have been on Methotrexate for a long time now and I don’t think it’s as effective as it used to be and was thinking of giving it a try

Many thanks

Sue

I'm not a great fan of taking anything I don't have to but if it doesn't help it won't hurt

Hi Sue,

I do take a high dose tablet once a day and have done for about a year. It's impossible to really know how effective it is as I take a lot of Meds and supplements. All I know is that I feel better in the last 6 months than before the RA diagnosis in 2011. It must be a combination of things, but I will keep taking Tumeric for now. It's not too expensive

Oh O K I’m definitely gonna try Thanks

That’s just what I’ve started to do. I make my paste in a pan with turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, coconut oil, and water. It’s stored in the fridge in a jar and I put one teaspoon into a glass of frothy milk with a teaspoon of honey and take it as a night-time drink, lush! 🌈🤗x

The ingredients I would use would be turmeric 1 tsp ginger 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1tsp coconut milk and a drop of honey to sweeten. I wouldn’t use a dairy milk or nut milk as they are inflammatory and I wouldn’t add pepper as that is also inflammatory but that’s my preference. Using coconut milk rather than oil means the drink will have a better consistency

Hi Sue, I asked the same question only a few days ago. I decided to make the latte drink which is lush! 🌈🤗x

I took turmeric capsules for a few months which didn't seem to do anything. Then recently I came across theturmeric.co who produce shots of raw pressed turmeric with other anti-inflammatory ingredients such as pepper, watermelon, pomegranate and beetroot... They say that powdered turmeric goes through heating in the manufacturing process and so is much less effective than when it's raw.

I've ordered a sample pack to see if I can stomach it and if I can, I'll order more to see if it helps with my joint stiffness/inflammation.

Thanks, will do. I'm hoping it'll help, especially as I'm finding reducing doses of prednisolone quite hard going!

I used to make turmeric golden paste (turmeric, pepper and coconut oil) and take it every day. I don't really know if it helped - sometimes I thought it did, but overall I didn't see much improvement. I think at the time my RA was so active and uncontrolled that it was beyond the point where the turmeric could do much. There's a Facebook group for turmeric golden paste with quite a lot of info and the recipe. It's useful even though a lot of the posts are about dogs! 🙂

I take cold pressed turmeric root - a teaspoon on a cracker most days. Although there have been other things going on which might have had an effect, I have overall had the best winter and spring since I developed RA - not perfect but better. Given the unpredictable nature of RA, I feel it is too soon to say with certainty that turmeric is helping me but I shall continue to take it for a while.

I take tumeric twice a day and I’m convinced it helps me as I notice a difference if I don’t take it for a while.
