So this morning I made some small headway with that vintage needlework collage the cat was 'helping' me with the other day. I cut out all the felt bits that need to be sewn on, and pinned them to the canvas. That was as much as I could do without getting sore hands, and in fact I probably should have left the pinning until tomorrow as I'm a bit achey now, but I got carried away - you know how it is. It amazes me now to think that I would do stuff like that for hours on end, without even thinking about it, but there you go - we adapt, don't we.
I just wondered if anyone had bought those scissors that are supposed to be easier for arthritic hands - this sort of thing: arthritis.org/partnership/e...

Yes I have some and the spring in them makes them much easier to use with dodgy hands. They’re expensive but if you do a lot of craft work I think you will find them very helpful.
Ooh thanks Lolabridge - yes, it would be a worthwhile investment for me as I always used to do a lot of crafts and would love to be able to do a bit more. x
So good to hear you've made a start on your sewing and totally agree when you say about how hours used to be spent without a thought of having to stop. Now it's small achievable steps and adaptations. Which brings me onto the link for scissors. Thanks for sharing this, I've no experience of using this type of scissor but wondered how effective they are too. Keep posting on the progress you make with your sewing and it would be lovely to see it when it's finished. It was lovely to see the cat helping you out and clearly taking a break in the warm sunshine. Take care

You can get some with like a soft touch hand parts worth looking for them they make a difference to me
Hi, I do use these ‘snips’ as the spring system certainly takes the strain however, if you are cutting lots of fabric/craft material it might be worth considering a rotary cutter. I have one with an ergonomic handle (just from Amazon) and it makes a huge difference. I have been able to sew again, on the good days, mainly patchwork quilting and these cutters make everything so much more manageable. happy crafting 😊
Ah yes, I do have a rotary cutter and they are really great for that kind of thing. I need new blades though - blunt as anything! Would love to see some of your patchwork sometime if you ever feel like showing us some pics
I don't use those exact scissors but something similar by Zyliss amazon.co.uk/Zyliss-All-Pur... They're spring loaded & come apart for easy washing & the only scissors we have that I can get my fingers through (OA DIP joints are a problem). Never needed sharpening either which h says isn't so much to do with how I abuse them (😧) but the quality of the steel.
