Occupational health

Just had a call from occupational health. I gave consent for this referral so knew it was coming. It is booked as a telephone consultation for Monday.

Any advice about what I may expect. I have been asked to have my medication list available and that it will take around 30 minutes.

Feeling apprehensive.

This is where honesty comes on, honesty about your pain, what you CANT do, your difficulty getti.g dressed getting to work toileting, any problems no matter how embarrassing, down to I cant get socks and shoes on.tell her your anguish about work and how it affects you emotionally too.

They will be on your side if you tell them the truth, and they hate when they ask how are you and you say " fine". No bravery ssy" I. Awful really!"

Good luck I'm sure they will help. They are great for recommending you for work adaptations and even more hour changes if needed . Good luck. Read the NRAS.org.uk site, advice and ask them to send you the guide toworking rights its fab and free

Agree with advice given,

My experience of OH is their purpose is to wholly support you in staying in work in a way that takes into consideration your healthy

Needs and reasonable adjustments - so anything that would support you in the workplace.

My experience with them had always been positive.

Please remember that you are entitled to have in your possession, a copy of the referral and report that’s subsequently sent to your employer.

And that this is for you, to support you x

Hi about 9 months ago had 2 telephone OH assessments both were very good and thorough, she was a fully qualified nurse who specialised in OH. Make sure the person from OH understands it is RA you have not just Arthritis because once I clarified this with her she better understood what I was saying. All I can say is be perfectly honest how you are affected and what your limitation are. After both the assessments her clinical assessment was that I was not fit to work.
