Has anyone had a wet room put in by the council? I'm getting mine done next month and I'm not sure what to expect - will there be a screen or anything? (I don't use a wheelchair btw, in case that makes a difference).
My bathroom is tiny and I was thinking that when the bath is removed I might have space for a storage unit to put towels in, but I don't know if everything will just get soaking wet!

It’s difficult without knowing the size of the bathroom. I was going to get one but my toilet would get wet so I’m going for a flush tray and a half screen
My loo is right next to my bath at the moment - virtually touching - so I'm hoping the shower will have some sort of screen or it'll get soaked!
My father-in-law had a wet room put in and it was basically that, a wet room, no screen, no curtain, it drained away into a hole in the floor. Do you have a number you can ring to find out exactly what they’re putting in, if there is a screen? I bet you can’t wait but it’s no fun having your whole bathroom soaking wet, good luck😊
I’ve had one out in. There’s no screen but a curtain that goes right round in a rail. You’d need to put a screen in yourself, if that’s what you wanted. My radiator was taken out and a tall heated towel rail out in as well as spot lights in the ceiling. Hope it all goes to plan.
Why not have a shower cubicle...Unless you have plenty of room a wet room would be just that ....wet!
We had this done some years ago. We have folding doors half height with shower curtains too. They had to put the wash basin inside the shower area, which isn't ideal. We got a shower chair too, which could be replaced by a wheelchair. I have photos but would need to start a new post to add one.. Where the wash basin was moved from we have a trolley with 3 shelves to put toiletries on etc. What we really would have liked was an upright radiator which doubles as a towel rail, but our permitted budget wouldn't cover it. The half doors would allow a carer to lean over to assist with your wash.

What I said was in the last house I had I had a bath removed and in the space where the bath was I had a double shower fitted. In the package with the shower came a little seat you could attach to the wall if you need to sit down in the shower. There was plenty of room for another person to get in there with me.
Look online at double showers it was very easy to fit .... only took a day and you had all the space left that you had before
Sadly though I never had someone to wash my back in that shower!😂
It sounds great! I'll have to have whatever the council decides to give me unfortunately as it's being done through adult social care.
The only thing now that makes me wish I still had a partner is trying to wash my back! Still not worth the agro though 
It would probably be cheaper than a wet room ....so adult social care would probably like that!
These days you buy the shower cubicle “readymade “..it just slots in....
Presumedly a wet room must include tiling the room completely ...floor & and walls top to bottom? That must be more expensive ...plus plumbing...my shower just attached to the removed bath plumbing.
Give them a lot of waffle about you might slip in a wet room which in fact is not waffle ....in the hotel I stayed in I ended up putting a towel on the floor to walk on because the shiny tiles covered in water were like a skating rink!
Think the only place in which wet rooms are successful are in places like the gym where everybody just wanders in and out....or in a purpose-built house where there is room for everything away from the water.

Thank AC! I am looking forward to it, but not the installation. It'll take two working weeks apparently. That's two weeks of my dog barking like a lunatic - he was a rescue and he gets upset by commotion of any kind. I'm going to see if the vet can give him some kind of mild tranquiliser to help him cope. I'll be lucky to keep my sanity to be honest!
Well that just proves councils/adult care, just like the NHS don’t go out & Investigate which is the best and most suitable job to carry out...doesn’t it?
I bet they have been installing wet rooms like that ever since wet rooms were invented!
Why don’t you ask if they can put you in a five star hotel while they do it? With a five star kennel attached?
To take two weeks to change a bath to a shower is ridiculous.....
Especially when it is being done by somebody who can do without being inconvenienced for all that time

Mine took about ten days. The did the walls and floor, had to do some
Plumbing then all the ‘aesthetics’ . Every night the loo had to be out back in - stressful!
Also, cost 8,500 in total. Would have been so much better for the public purse to have had a simple shower unit put in!
I've got a cupboard next to my downstairs loo and I wanted a shower put in there but the OT said I needed a bigger space. I think it takes so long because they have to make structural changes e.g. create a slope to drainage hole and various other preparatory work.
But it's going to be a bit stressful to say the least.
It cost me less than £2000 to have the bath removed, double shower installed, walls tiled & new flooring....& took one day.
So multiply that throughout NHS England & hey hospitals might get a bigger share of the budget & employ more rheumatologists & rheumy nurses!
But no doubt whoever makes the decision has always done it that way.....so why change....he gets paid to carry on regardless, not to think of how more patients can benefit. I guess if he got RA he might think outside the box?
My mum had one it was great I envied her it. She had open room and underfloor heating too. Floor to ceiling tiles and slate effect tiles so never needed cleaning as looked better with age. Lucky you !

I think your bathroom is actually bigger than mine. It is really minute. Just room for the loo, the bath and the basin and a space to walk in and out. The basin overhangs the bath a bit too so it'll be good to have more room.

Yes and be cautious. It was about 2005. The Council chose a slap dash builder (probably the cheapest tender) but still charged me a a considerable sum which in hindsight I could have got my own builder and paid for the work privately and had a better quality job. The Council's Building Inspector did not check the work (on holiday) and needless to say the end result was less than satisfactory.
Some aspects were remedied but, for instance, the tiler did a terrible job, filled gaps behind the door with silicone sealant. It was just not a top quality job. We have since re-tiled. The wet room shower worked perfectly. I did not like the fan heater they insisted be installed on the wall up near the ceiling - this meant a pull cord hanging. This has since been removed. The light was a pull cord and we ended up with 2 others - one for shower and one for the extractor fan.
Hopefully things have moved on today and your local authority will engage a better workforce. Good luck.
Hi.The O.T wanted me to have a wet room, but I'm claustrophobic and I said No Thanks. My Neighbour over the road from me have got one that was done by the Council. My Hubby took me across to see hers.I walked in and straight back out.The OT were really good,,they said that they could knock the one wall down to make it bigger. They're gonna give me a couple of months to think about it.
But i don't need a couple of days. My mind is already made up. No,i don't want all that hassle. My Nerves are bad enough as it is. We don't have a downstairs toilet,which is what I really would like. They were going to put one in for me 3 years ago. BUT,at the one end of the kitchen. ( I don't think so ).We've got an Oldie Stone Porch built that end.
It would have been easier and cheaper for them to do it the other end because we had a small extension built there.
But they wouldn't do it that end because they would have to knock a small wall down. They said that they couldn't do it that way because it was part of the outside wall.
Oh b....r it, my Grandson is a Builder. I might ask him to do it for me. He'll do it the way I want it, and get paid the same time. So that way the both of us wins..

Hi attatel. I've made up my mind.
All i want is a downstairs Loo.
My Grandson was here yesterday.
All i have to do is tell him when i want him to start and he'll do it for me.
He's got a few men working for him,so it shouldn't take long.
I don't want them to start just yet..
Im In a lot of pain and I don't think that I could stand the banging and hammering.
When you've had the work done, you can always add your own little finishing touches to it..
