RA and fibromyalgia

Hello I have been to my monthly Rheumatology clinic yesterday and I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia as well is this possible. The whole thing has been very worrying and upsetting this illness is new to me but I have all the symptoms yet to my horror I found out little is known about this illness and even less support or treatments are available has anyone experienced this awful disease

I had RA for a long while and then out of the blue along came fibromyalgia. Followed by chronic fatigue syndrome as well. So I feel for you darling.xxxx

Don’t panic! Having the diagnosis is a positive thing. You’ve probably been living with it for a while. Now you know, you can start to manage it better.

I have seronegative RA and fibromyalgia. It’s not a walk in the park, but there is plenty that you can do to make life easier.

I would highly recommend joining the Fibromyalgia Action UK forum on HealthUnlocked. The people there are amazing and will answer any questions or concerns you have.

Hi Judith, I have RA and Fibromylgia the latter came along a few months after.

It's a nightmare to be honest. The fatigue is really bad. I have always been around the 9 stone mark but have put on 2 and a half stone in such a short time. I know it's the drop in exercise and the eating to get energy! Vicious circle.

They say exercise is the best therapy for Fibro and I have found that to be true.

Swim if you can, it's less strain on you than a long walk. Pain causes tiredness and Fibro is giving me lots of pain in muscles. It's like being in a boxing ring getting punched all the time and trying to fight back. RA and its symptoms are there too. It's unfair to get this double whammy, many of us have that kind of luck on here.

Thank you Shalf it is truly unfair and such a punishment my body feels like not my own

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia several years before the RA came along. I also have OA, PsA, degenerative disc disease and many other conditions of which a lot are connected to RA. It is a very hard thing to have so many illnesses and sometimes (today being one of them) I feel like I can't manage any more. I can no longer go out for a walk and am struggling to even walk about the house. The pain is so bad just now and I am waiting for another MRI on my lower back.

However, don't let what I have said get you down as there are not many like me, who have so many conditions. Even one of the GPs at my surgery said she didn't know how I coped and that she thought she would go under if she was like me. I think you will find your own way of coping eventually, like I have had to do.

Having Rheumatoid Disease and fibromyalgia must be a nightmare. Do you mind me asking how it was diagnosed and what the symptoms of fibromyalgia are? The two seem to be linked.
