Are you taking any other DMARDS or Pred? MTX can cause lowered WBC as can all DMARDS. So it is most likely the cause. If your rheumy team think is a concern, they will either lower the dose, or ask you to stop using it for a short while. Perhaps you should ring them to ask what measures they want to take. Or ring the NRAS helpline Opening times: Monday to Friday, 9.30am - 4.30pm 0800 298 7650
Could be a sign of an infection. A dipstick test should be done. I'm on MTX & had this happen, it can cause a dip. Best to let your Rheumy Nurse know as even if you don't feel ill it needs checking out.
Can I ask who took your blood and told you your WBC was low, and did they offer any advice ? They should have done.
My WBC has been low throughout my experience with RD. But until starting baricitinib I have not had any problems with infections. So don't worry too much, but do ask for advice from rheumatology.
Bloods are checked monthly at gp (shared care between gp and consultant) so low WBC showed up in routine bloods. I feel well and joints all good just now, so reluctant to reduce methotrexate (on 15mg) . Decision is to recheck bloods in 2 weeks.
