Has everyone had experience of Knee Replacement surgery, while taking the drug Prolia ?

My Doctor said I could have the knee replacement surgery six weeks after I started taking Prolia shot.

The surgeons team will go through all this when you’re referred. It was very thorough when I had my two knees done

did they make you go off your ra meds before and after surgery for a few weeks ??

I cant remember to be honest. I think I was on 6 monthly rituximab so they timed the ops to fit in with that, but I do remember taking my meds during the 3 days I was in hospital. But different meds may require different things. I'm in Edinburgh and had the two procedures in the royal infirmary - things may be different elsewhere. The most important thing I did to help myself was do regular exercises. I wasn't able to walk much before the op, but I saw a private physio (£30 an hour) who got me to do lifting my leg and pedalling and I think that made a big difference to my recovery. I think the worst thing I did was to leave the op for a long time. It meant that my muscles had got weaker than they should.

Hi Cathy i had a knee replacement at the Royal Infirmary just over a week ago i can live with the pain during the day but wake most nights around 4.30 when it seems to be at its worst. My GP phoned about something else and she upped the pain meds which now seems to be kicking in just wondering how long before things improve

I hope it eases soon. I dont remember the pain as being too bad, but my knees had been very bad before the op - things are relative aren't they. I think trying to relax should help a bit. I think everyone's experience is probably different, but wish you very well.

Sounds like me - well apart from the soft bones, I dont know about that. Can you relax into taking things easy for a few weeks? I'm sure that proper rest will help your knees to settle down. If you can find a nice book or something to help take your mind off your pain, that should help. But get in touch if you need! My husband is going to have a hip op in the New Year and it helps to think about what's involved in recovering. XX

Reply to my own question .

Most folks can take Prolia ( thinning bone Meds) and have their knees replaced.

Knee bones , as a general rule, don't get too thin for the replacement surgery.

The biggest problem with Prolia , is with your teeth.

Get all your teeth fixed and/or pulled before you take Prolia.

If you have to have a tooth pull, plan ahead. Maybe, between the Shots.

You should have an antibiotic when you have a work done in your mouth.
