Hello everyone as you know I'm on MTX injection and recently having shortness of breath. Thank you for all the replies on that post as I'm going for test but know out of the blue my eyes are very itchy and last night woke up at 2am gasping for water. I had 3 pints and stayed awake till 5am. The water just running threw me. Recentley I have had to take a pint of water to bed and I would wake at 2 am and drink it and I was ok till 7am next morning but last night was mad. What the hell does MTX do to the body to make one so thirsty and dehydrated? and do you guys suffer this one?

I too have all these symptoms and blamed methotrexate. I’m now going to be tested for Sjögren’s syndrome. Wish I mentioned it before I’ve had it for years I now use eye drops, saliva spray and a nasal spray. Don’t leave it mention it to your Rheumy or if your Gp ( if they are any good mine just dismissed my symptoms)

MTX dried me out too. I found drinking throughout the day helped, 3 - 4 litres plus of water. I also kept a wee bottle of water beside my bed and sipped , rather than drinking loads when I woke up.

I was investigated for pituitary problems, but all came back ok except for a 'historical' shadow (!?).

My dryness and thirst was put down to the RD and MTX.

Since being off MTX I'm not nearly as thirsty, or hungry.

please talk to your rheumy nurse and gp as breathlessness may be related to MTX which gave me lung damage, revealed by chest x-rays and breathing tests. AOK now as taken off MTX pronto, into w/chair for a few weeks then sulfa and swimming, singing got my lungs back to 95% from 75% :). i only had a slight cough but thought i shd get it checked and am glad i did. good luck

I’ve been dealing with this one for awhile from a variety of medications. Could also be Sjögrens? Good to talk to your Rheumatologist. I take water and eye drops with me everywhere I go.

Get dry eyes too use non preservative eye drops.

Also have a full metal bottle flask of water I drink few slurps in the night as & when in the night.

As said in another reply your symptoms have a similar one to diabetic symptoms so get checked out in case.

People wouldn't believe the random symptoms of RA eh?

MTX gave me a thirst like I've never had which would lessened as the week went on and then back after weekly dose. It does lesson over time. Best to still mention to RA team.
