Vit-D and vit-K are partners!!

SUMMARY:

One of vitamin D's main functions is to ensure adequate levels of calcium in your blood. Vitamin K promotes calcium accumulation in your bones, while reducing its accumulation in soft tissues such as blood vessels.

It's clear that vitamin K benefits your heart and bones, but it's unclear whether high-dose vitamin D supplements are harmful when you're low in vitamin K.

It is also worth remembering that vitamen supplement tablets are not particularly effective, if taken on their own. as little, if any of the vitamin is absorbed and require the vitamin in it's natural state (food, in other words) to activate them.

For instance, if I recall correctly, vitamin D tablets require certain fats to activate them properly, such as is found in egg yolks, salmon, tuna, beef liver, cheese, etc.

That way your body absorbs a much higher percentage (80-100%) of the vitamin, rather than (10%) less. :)

You are right, in the link, it did highlight that vit-D is oil soluble so it will work well with some oil.

Again I eat eggs and cheese everyday, the sun here is throughout the whole year, still I have problem with vit-D. I just find this is weird really.

Yes, it's very strange, moreso with your constant supply of sunshine.

Maybe your body isn't processing it properly, so you aren't getting as much as you think?

My rheumy couldn't answer that too.

In order to help the absorption of vit.D you need vit k2. Vit. D is among other things a fighter of inflammation. Those with auto immune diseases are chronicly vit D d’efficience.

Hi Amy_Lee

It needs to be Vit D3 along with vit K.

Unabsorbed vit D supplements might cause kidney stones, if I recall correctly. :-)

I like all this recall correctly as I can google again. Will see what I can find to share if information is good.

In fact the vit-D to couple with vit-k was suggested in the similar way which I appreciate a lot. I know now how important to also have enough vit-k while I am taking vit-D now. I will check with my rheumy in Oct when I next see her.
