Is it psychological that whenever my chemist gives me white 5mg pred. They don’t seem as good, I understand about the red coated tablets that I usually get maybe delaying slightly due to the coating, but am I being daft to imagine that the white one’s are a cheaper option

and the main one is the speed at which it is absorbed.

There's quite a bit of work on how blue pills make you feel relaxed, red pills more alert etc.

Thanks I’m sure other than a stomach protection I’m just psychologically confused possibly because the chemist always gives what he’s been ordered to give and the doctor under hospital direction gets lost by not hearing the direct request from me but anyway thanks for your reply

The white ones are cheaper, because they are not enteric coated, which aids the stomach lining. As far as I am aware, there is no other difference.

Thanks I’m over thinking the tablets I need to relax a little it’s the return to pred. After years of freedom that’s getting to me due to flares but slowly I’ll get there thanks again

I have so many colours of the meds at the moment I have a rainbow so forget about each pills colour and what it does ....hahaha

White is cheap is what my Mum used to comment on.

Yes I agree the white are uncoated so don't give stomach protection. My doctor's surgery started giving me the white ones as they are cheaper.

I wasn't as comfortable taking them and made sure I'd had enough food to help protect my stomach.

Thanks for your reply luckily my stomach is quite good so perhaps the coated tablets aren’t necessary, just need to overcome a bit of stubbornness

I've only had white ones and they have been fine. However I do take lanzoprazole and take pred with breakfast or at least a piece of fruit.

I do not think it is psychological. I my area the coated 5mg of prednisolone were discontinued quite a number of years ago. The pink coating was a slow release tablet, too expensive. We now can only have white non-coated 5mg and 1mg and I also think they are not nearly so good. Slow release was so much better four our systems. Take care.

I like the fact that the white prednisone tablets can be crushed and taken with water. I don’t know about anyone else but I’d like them to work straight away before they exit in the normal way lol. They don’t seem to bung me up like they used to years ago so I’m fine with that. They don’t help with sleep problems whatever time of day I take them but I will settle for that, to get the relief they offer.
