Those hands that do dishes can feel soft as your face with Hydrchloric Acid...a ditty I sang as a boy, so who cares about washing up) :)

Unsightly nails that have ridges, splits and that have a tendency to peel.

Not so bad in the looks department for us guys, but seems a further medical insult for you ladies. Was scouring through my spam emails, prior to deleting them and stumbled across many notifications from this platform and among them was a six year old post dealing with fingernails, at which point I recalled having many tests a few years back for a problem, but another came to light, namely, borderline thyroid that exhibited the nail problems.

Scratching below the surface (Yeah, bad pun, but that's my privelege, as I'm typing this! Lol) I further discovered it is also a symptom of RA, OA and FM.

Just thought I'd cobble a post together and see what folk think.

Well - you've just answered a question! I've always had long (natural) nails but about 4/5 years ago they all started splitting and breaking with deep ridges. Couldn't understand it - thank you I do now!

I use to bite my nails, I know not great, that’s because when they grew they would split and break easily.

Now my nails are so much stronger and continue to grow grow grow 😌 They are very long, I do need to cut but reluctant to. Interesting to know about the thyroid and nails shall research and if it’s a symptom of RA, my nails seem to be better than they have ever been, probably due to healthy eating and good supplements possibly.

All the best.

As I struggle to get up this morning to face a stressful commute to the other side of London. Fingers unable to bend and feet stiff and sore - UP would be a strong word, more coasting, the rest is hope and prayer. One day at a time. The only positive is my nails, very odd 😌

My nails started developing ridges around a year after becoming unwell, they are now also brittle and break easy too.

Obliged, yet again, for your invaluable assistance Ajay575 .

It's much the same as Fascistbook.

Lol.

The @ only sometimes works on Youtube.

The _italic_ underline works there, as does the *bold*

I miss G+ as they worked on there too.

dembonesDAMNBONES yes brittle nails ridges and then diagnosed RA. Only got better when on prednislone and now coming off hands and nails look like crap again. So yep can see why there is a link.

I'm lucky in that a friend, also a neighbour and various barmaids are kind enough to clip my nails for me, as, more often than not, I'm unable to do it myself.

Other than that, I don't really concern myself with how they look in a typically blokey fashion. :)

I recall reading or watching something about black lines on the nails, but nothing comes to mind at this time.

Having a gray or RA moment. :)

Must dig into that...

I always had good strong nails but now not so good. I have ridges & a couple of my nails are completely split down the middle 😩. My diet has always been good & I’ve always looked after my nails was thinking it must be linked to having RD. Yet another thing 😡. Thank you for confirming what I thought.

It is true, RA and meds affect our nails. Mine have vertical ridges that threaten to split but improved with daily DM (diatomaceous earth) and daily MSM. Those mean the nails are back to needing trimmed every two weeks if not sooner.

Lucky you, to have someone who will trim yours! I often struggle with that and have to just not try or do a poor job.

Your sense of humour is a great asset!

Humour, reading humorous books, got me through many crises.

And I saw the hilarity in the situation a week or so ago when I was in the local M&S outlet, photographing men’s underwear with my phone camera. My son needed new ones and was down in Devon but coming back in a few days.

So I airlifted pics of available styles and colours in his size but nearby was a sales assistant who seemed rather suspicious of my activity.

So I told her what I was doing and why but I joked on Fb that I was ‘caught’!

Lol.

Not quite the same, but I 'zoned out' with a girlfriend, a few decades back, who had made her decision and gone to the checkout to pay for her lingerie without telling me, leaving me browsing, unaccompanied, on her behalf.

It was only two ladies, who noticed, rather than staff and they saw me join my girlfriend at the counter, although I imagine they'd seen us enter, so didn't seem that concerned.
