Hi all, have posted a few times on gritty eyes. Have had punctal plugs put in, and although they helped at first I noticed that after a few weeks my eyes became very gritty again, particularly my right eye. Finally getting an appointment at the eye clinic, my fears were realised, and one of the plugs had come out. It has been replaced, but, I was told that they can come out quite easily, even by sneezing. My eyes still give me discomfort, and I am putting my drops in every 2 hours or less as well as cleaning my eyes. The drops I use are theoloz duo. It seems like as soon as I get one thing under control ( just started Rituximab, which seems to be working) something else starts. Don’t want to be putting drops in my eyes for the rest of my life! Want to put makeup on again and enjoy being pain free. Ps, also the 4 inch bakers cyst in my calf has also ruptured. HAPPY DAYS .

Gritty eyes
Do you use an ointment or gel at night? I use VitA POS at night and Hyloforte in day. I still wake in night with my eyes life glued to eyeballs and need drops to open them to see enough to get to the toilet. I have plugs too - mine never come out but I’m not convinced they help much and I’m used to applying drops 5 or 6 times a day or more.
Maybe, if you’re lucky, the Rituxumab will help your eyes too.
Yes I use vita pos at night, I am hoping 2nd infusion of Rituximab will help, as in the last 32 years of having RA never had problems with eyes.
I’m the opposite - I’ve always struggled with dry eyes and other systemic things then only a few years of RA. The Sjögren’s rheumy told me that only long-standing primary RA is associated with secondary Sjögren’s. So if someones eyes are dry early on in the disease they probably have primary Sjögren’s and secondary RA. I’m used to my eyes being annoyingly dry.
I have the same problem and have come resigned to the fact that I will be putting in drops and gel for the rest of my life. At my last visit to the eye clinic, I was told that I should put Hylo Forte drops in at least six times a day, Clinitas Gel 3 times a day and VitA Pos at night. I am also supposed to bathe them and use special eye wipes that I get from my optician. Despite all that, they still get gritty, especially the right one. I am afraid it is all part and parcel of RA.
