I’m taking Leflunomide and feel ok on it despite having a bad time a couple of weeks ago not been able to move . I had horrendous hip pain which took 8 days to get moving again .
This week I noticed a lump in my foot under my big toe . It’s a little sore I’ve no idea what it is but I know for sure it’s definitely not a bunion because I don’t wear tight shoes and definitely not wore heels for about 25 years I’m more a flat shoe fan .
I’m also having neck pain when I move it from side to side . And back pain too .
I’m the same JFlay , I was told it was a pressure sore , because of Ra putting more pressure on one foot all the time , now my ankles and feet are knackered lol , have to laugh or we would be cryin an awful lot 🙃
Looks like your going through a flare and some damage might be happening I would definitely get it checked and maybe get referred to a podiatrist to get inserts made they have made a big difference to my feet....
Morning I have exactly the same thing and went to orthotics who are making me some insoles. I was told that this lump was due to my big toe bending in towards my other toes🙈 the joys. Hope things settle for you soon 🤞
It’s not too bad quite a big lump but it is more uncomfortable when I am having a flare I have a podiatry appointment in July so I will see what they say. I have found I need wider shoes but always use to just wear flip flops but they don’t support. My advice would be get your gp to make a referral to the podiatry clinic although I did a self referral on line and my gp made the referral to orthotics. 😊
I am in a boot after having surgery on my toes and the by the little toe(they tell me its a bunion) the one by the little toe had the bone shaved off and two toes broken to straighten them. I have had hammer toes and it has made walking hard. I had one foot done last year and now I am getting mid-way through six weeks of non weight bearing for this one.xxx
You’re the same as me Kalimera57, I only have two pairs of shoes I can wear because my right foot is a mess. I dread them wearing out as it’s so difficult to find any that fit comfortably 😞

A bursar soft squidy lump ? bunions are not caused by tight shoes just genetics really, mine was removed and foot straightened 2 years ago. Bunions are seen on Xray etc as they go around the big toe so see you GP for referrel for surgery. Orthotics are a waste of time and can make it worse, so sorry I'd say no to Podatrist but ask to see Orthapedic Surgeon. When mine was done they did release claw toes too and it really was'nt painful and scarring is side of foot except for 2 small ones on top so hard to see. Wear shoes with a small heel can help too.
Talk to your rheumy nurse ...you could have a neuroma under your foot.

These little benign lumps under feet can be injected...or surgically removed.
Bunions are usually on the inside of your foot on the big toe joint, & from your
photo, you don’t look to have a bunion.
However, you don't only get them from wearing unsuitable shoes! They run in
my family & my mother took me to the doctor with one on each foot when I was 7.
Eventually ......years later ....they got so bad.....I had surgery to remove them, & for the first time ever I can wear strappy sandals....if only it would stop raining!
Oh dear! Try not to worry about it. Bunions can be hereditary (did anyone in your family have them?) and it could the start of one. Or perhaps it is a RA flare up. The photo of your foot looks a bit dark on my laptop so it's hard to distinguish what it is. Try to take it easy and put your foot up and rest it.
If you search the nras website you should see a seminar they did on foot changes due to ra. You will understand what is happening to your foot. The back pain and neck pain i have as well. Its all down to ra im my case and the damage caused by ra which then changes to oa. Hope your ok. They may cjange your meds if you tell them about the new developments. Goid luck
Sorry just read some of the other replies they will only do surgery on your foot if you have good circulation. I cannot get anything done with my feet due to poor circulation
Hiya Caroline. Despite not wearing heels or tight shoes (it was summer so in loose sandals) my feet had the beginnings, or a little further on, of bunions. This was the month before I was diagnosed when I had the first symptoms in my feet. I also had bunionettes (same effect by the little toe) but both reduced in size when I started responding to hydroxychloroquine, my first DMARD.
I do have a larger bunion than back then, nothing like my Nan's were though, & it doesn't trouble me so much. Both also show signs of enlarging when I'm not well controlled, when I'm in need of an increase in meds or an addition to methotrexate. This is why I'm sharing this info, in case it could be similar for you, that you're not as well controlled as you could or should be possibly?
I’m still waiting to see my new Rhuematology consultant . I was referred to a hospital closer to where I live , the living Rheumatologist wasn’t very good so I’m changing again x.
I’ve seen my doctor today who’s sending me for X-rays in my foot back and neck as these are bothersome too . Things never get any easier 😖x
Hi, I have a lump at the top and base of my big toe which is a hallux rigidus. It’s not a bunion but is caused by osteoarthritis which I have as well as RA. It started small and grew over the years into a substantial lump caused by an overlay of bone. It is operable but I didn’t want to have it done as my toe will then be fused. Ask the doctor to check if yours could be that - an x ray will tell. It is often painful and I cannot bear any pressure on it. I now wear Skechers shoes as they are very light and comfortable with a foam insole. I would recommend them to anyone with foot problems, a bit pricey but worth it to be able to walk again!
I ware the same thing Kariss. Both of my feet now have knots below the big toes of my feet. Like you said it can be painful. Skechers do help me as well but what also helps me to are my ugg Olsen moccasin slippers. They’re the most comfortable when my feet hurt. Osteoarthritis can hit like hell in your feet how well I know.
I have the same thing on both of my feet now and they are both in the same spot as yours is. That’s a sign of arthritis in your foot . I have osteoarthritis. Both of my feet get very sore . More so my right foot than my left but it can be very uncomfortable. Have you been diagnosed yet for any type of arthritis? Like osteoarthritis. That’s what mine is
That’s what it looks like to me. I’ve had the same knots on both of my feet for a few years now. You’ll notice that it’ll probably get bigger as time goes by. Mine has on my right foot more so than the left. It can get tender at times but not always. You may also feel pain in your big toe at times as well . I feel it in mine as well as my smaller toes now on both of my feet. They get to painful to try and bend them at times. You may feel that later on as well. Everyone is different when it comes to pain from arthritis. Good luck.
The one on my right foot appeared first small enough I could barely see it unless I took my finger and rubbed right at the joint of my toe. It was about a year and a half later I noticed the one on my left foot in the same identical spot. It hasn’t gotten as big as the one on my right foot as of yet. But now the both of my feet hurt constantly some days it hurts to even stand on my right foot the way it is now.
I use my ugg Olsen moccasins a lot. I even ware them when I do my errands away from the house. Ive also gotten to the point that I’ll drive to work in them then change into my Skechers when I get there. Believe me some days I don’t want to change out of them do to they seem more comfortable than the ones I Chang into.
No not a bunion at all. It’s called a nodule . It form at the joint of the big toe of the foot when it’s affected with osteoarthritis or another form of arthritis in the foot. Mine is OA that I have and it’s very painful at times.
Kittyj except mine isn’t from ra. Mine is from OA. I haven’t been diagnosed with ra as of yet. All tho that does run in both side of my family. Both OA and RA run on both side of my family.
Although I have worn my black uggs to work a few times and stayed in them all day. Believe me when your feet get arthritis in them you start to find the most comfortable shoes. Even if it means waring your slippers to work. The Olsen moccasin slippers are very stylish and can actually pass for a casual work dress day.
I have bunions on both feet, much larger than the one pictured. They're painful! I don't know whether mine is due to RA or genetics or just age. Or all of them. I've always been rather flat footed, even as a child. Can't blame shoes, as I haven't worn high heels in almost 24 years. I stopped wearing them long before the bunions developed. It's getting harder and harder to find shoes wide enough to accommodate them.
