I was told to stop taking my mtx injections 5weeks ago as my blood tests were showing elevated levels in my liver of 53. Since I have stopped the levels have continued to climb and are now at 130 . I don't drink and I have stayed away from ibobrofin as was told that would make it worse. Why is it going up? What do I need to do to stop it? I have had no mtx for 5 weeks now and I am starting to feel very stiff and tried. I was doing really well on the mtx a am gutted I can't have it anymore . I am in touch with hospital but don't have an appointment till 31st July.

Do you know which measure is rising - GGT or ALT or something else ?
I assume your GP has checked you for celiac disease and liver issues such as Hep A, B , C etc ? Any of these can raise your LFTs
It might be worth asking your GP if s/he has run all the checks and what they intend doing if the levels keep rising before your July appointment as it is too long to wait.
I hope you get some answers soon.
Tylenol or paracetamol is one to avoid with liver issues, along with alcohol and high carb foods. I’ve been dealing with elevated liver enzymes for 15 years—long before RA diagnosis. Finally a rheumatologist figured out that even though I don’t have autoimmune hepatitis, my liver problem is tied to my RA because he can manipulate the numbers with drugs. Good luck and I hope they figure out your liver problem.
