Bakers cyst

Hi everyone, well, managed my 2nd infusion of Rituximab ok, with no reaction. Got up following day and felt ok, steroid doing it’s job. Short lived though, after showering and washing my hair wrist painful, so took it easy for the rest of the day. However, by 8.30 last night it was evident that my long standing 4 inch bakers cyst was revving up for another pain filled episode. Have spoken to consultant about fixing this, as it is not ruptured and is not behind my knee, but at the top of my calf. He said that as my RA gets under control, it will resolve itself. He doesn’t think there is surgery to sort this out ?.. I am about to go on a weeks holiday 1st of June, taking my 8 year old grandson on a plane for his first holiday, I cannot go in this sorry state. Any thoughts ?....

Cant advice on your situation but I had bakers cyst behind knee and it went away over time. Also had a tennis ball size lump on elbow and after 6 months it has been reabsorbed and now down to pea size. MY Rheumy did not want any intervention and it was right call. I had no pain from either of them.

Have had a Baker’s Cyst for about 16 years now, behind my right knee. Was also told no surgical options. But, I have no pain with it. Good luck on that trip and really pace yourself.

To add: it’s sorta strange how my Baker’s cyst was initially even seen. I mean how many of us look behind our knees in a mirror on a regular basis? Since I had no discomfort; I may not know of it today. But, my son was visiting me on a college break, we are preparing to go to the local beach. He sees it (very big, ugly looking bruised appearance). I totally sorta freak out thinking a blood clot of some sort. The two of us are scheduled on a flight across the Pacific in a few days. My doc asked a favor of the chief of radiology to do a stat ultrasound; therefore the discovery of the Baker’s cyst!! Good to fly! However, about two years ago; I woke up to a very red, swollen, mean-looking lower r. limb (cellulitis diagnosis) and one of the rare visits to an ER. I believe they took a CT scan of most of my body and the Baker’s cyst was still there! About 14 years old and has never caused me any grief. Perfect example and proof of what ails someone cannot be comparable to another’s but it’s good information:)! Apologies for the long-winded experience. The very best to you...

That is quite true, I have had 3 bakers cyst over the years, 2 of which ruptured, but this one, which ct scanner described as “huge” is causing me grief. As I have said it is not even behind my knee. I have had a dvt in that leg, a little lower down so can compare the two, and the pain is very similar when trying to put your leg down to the floor, you HAVE to keep it elevated. Am going to see consultant on the 29th so intend to ask for aspiration and steroid into knee, which I know will help
