Biological storage 2 to 8 centigrade

Hi everyone anyone else using biologicals that need to be stored at 8c max. My fridge freezer seemed to not be getting cold enough so I bought temp gauge and it says 10 centigrade. I bought a new fridge freezer and even on number 4 it's still only reading just on 8 it's hard to get it lower. I have been on biologicals for 12 months first benepali which didn't seem to be effective and 5 months on Humari. 1 at injection really seemed to help them not effective. I am now wondering if these drugs aren't working cause they have not been kept cold enough. I checked my son's fridge it was 10 .c. On reading on internet it seems that there is effidence that most people are storing these drugs at too high temp without knowing and maybe that's the problem. Antoine else checked their fridge temp and any advise on what to do. I feel that it's pointless injecting the 3 syringes I have left as they too will have been kept wrongly. Can't get hold of rhumy at moment . It's worth a check. These drugs are so expensive too. Thanks everyone desperate . Xx

Hi, I was worried about this when on injectable biologics. I bought a mechanical fridge thermometer but found it to be unreliable. I then got a battery operated temperature gauge which had a probe which sat in the fridge and one in the freezer. A magnetic LCD display on the door showed the internal temperature. I found this much more reliable and stopped worrying. Mine's a Beko fridge freezer.

I think benepali is like Enbrel in that it can actually be left out of the fridge for 4 weeks? So if it’s less than 4 weeks since your drugs were delivered they should be fine. What you mustn’t do is take them in and out of the fridge.

Also check the different levels in your fridge. The bottom level is usually colder.

(Edit, Whoops, you said you were on Humira, so have 14 days. )

Hi thanks so much. Other problem is when I go away to work for 8 weeks at a time they insist on taking it away from me at the airport and getting it checked somewhere else. They take the gel packs and and the injections and handle them going over them with a hand scanner so worried that will compromise them also. X

That shouldn’t be a problem? My Enbrel is in sealed packs, and the Methotrexate pens in boxes. Anyway, even if they take the pens out, the cap that you take off before you inject keeps them sterile. You could ask to accompany them if it worries you and explain that because it’s a drug you inject you need to be sure it stays sterile?

I’ve never thought to check my fridge temperature but I will now as I get 8 weeks supply at a time.

We had that problem. We bought 3 thermometers and the first two were faulty. Our fridge seems to go between 2 and 10 degrees, no matter where it is set. To have it at that temperature it freezes vegetables. My thermometer is on the middle shelf with my Humira. I wondered if that was why my Benepali didn't work.

Just a bit of info. We had a Beko fridge freezer and found to keep ice cream solid we turned thermostat up, then the fridge contents froze to. Only one motor for both compartments.

So we ended up buying a new fridge freezer that had separate motors both for fridge and freezer. Hope this answers your question to some point.
